The first season of Fringe was very much a prologue – an entry point – into the world of the show. Along with the characters, mythology and whacked-out science, the Fringe Original Soundtrack, by Michael Giacchino, Chris Tilton and Chad Seiter, is very much a part of that introductory piece.
This is one of the reasons why I wanted to review the soundtrack, to see where it fits in my experience of the first season. I’ll be going at it in a non-technical fashion. I’m not going to talk about ‘strings’ and ‘woodwind solos’ (although I hope someone does tackle it from that standpoint). I’m simply going to tell you what I like and dislike about the soundtrack, and whether or not I think it’s value for money. Hopefully you’ll find it useful.
Thursday’s episode of Fringe was very musical, but not in the “Brown Betty” sense of the word. It featured composition that really breathed life into the narrative and the man helping Chris Tilton and his team? Mike McCready of Pearl Jam.
McCready talks to Entertainment Weekly about how this collaboration came about and his experience working on the Fringe. After the jump is where it’s at.
It looks like the Fringe Soundtrack has been delayed by two weeks. The Original Soundtrack had been expected to drop March 23rd but Amazon now have it listed for anApril 6th release – by then the show will be back on the air, so the delay would make sense from an exposure standpoint.
Although the delay is disappointing for those of us who were eager to get our Fringe groove on, Amazon have slashed the price from $17.98 to $13.99. As per Amazon’s pre-oder price guarantee, if you order now you wont pay more than the current price even if the price goes up again later. Cool.
UPDATE: The Fringe Soundtrack has been delayed until April 6th. See here for more.
The Fringe Original Soundtrack is coming to a universe near you on March 23rd, 2010. Amazon currently have it listed (aff link) for $17.98. Continue past the break for the product details.
Check out this video from the MTV Movie Awards, featuring Andy Samberg and Will Ferrel singing about, erm..explosions - the video quality is not the best but it’s pretty funny, plus Fringe co-creator JJ. Abrams makes an appearance on the Piano. What’s not to watch?
UPDATE: Great, now I have this song stuck in my head.
UPDATE 2: New video added above – much better quality than the Youtube version that was taken down by Viacom.
The song playing in the strip club is “Starstruck” (Ft. Space Cowboy & Flo Rida) by Lady Gaga. A pretty sick track -- nice one Fringe. You can listen to the song via the video below:
Some of you have been asking for the name of the song Walter was dancing to in “Inner Child” — it was, of course, “Love And Happiness” by Al Green. Enjoy the video above.
We all love Spongebob Square Pants, right? We all love fun, right? We all love Fringe, right? If you answered ‘yes’ to all three of those then you’ll probably enjoy this Fringe/Spongebob mash-up!
It seems that many of you are digging Olivia’s music collection! We’ve had quite a few emails asking about the song playing in the final scene between Peter, Olivia and Rachel. The song is called “Bandits” and it by a group called Midlake. Here’s a sampling below:
The song that was playing at the beginning of the episode was “Single Ladies” by the bootylicious one – we posted it here earlier today.
UPDATE
Also, for those wondering about the hip-hop song playing in the “gold coin” scene; it’s called “Insight” by the Fort Knox Five. Here’s a sampling:
