So it’s not Fringe, but here at FB we like to see what our former Fringies are up to when not cracking pattern-cases or plugging dimensional holes. The video above features John Scott (Mark Valley), the former lover turned national traitor turned redeemed lover of Olivia Dunham. He has a new show coming out next year, it’s called “Human Target” and it will air January 2010. Just think, by then Fringe will be back. Yeah, September isn’t too long to wait, right? RIGHT?
Mark Valley Is A “Human Target”

The Hollywood Reporter has news of a new project for “Fringe’s” Mark Valley, who portrays John Scott.
Mark Valley has been tapped as the lead in Fox’s drama pilot “Human Target” for director Simon West, while Kathryn Hahn has been tapped to star in Fox’s comedy pilot “Absolutely Fabulous.”
“Target,” from WBTV, DC Comics and McG’s Wonderland, is based on the DC Comics title and centers on Christopher Chance (Valley), a mysterious security freelancer who assumes the identities of those in danger, becoming the “human target” for his clients.
Good luck to him, I think that he did a good job as John Scott. With the way things are in “Fringe”, who knows – maybe one day we’ll see John Scott again..in some capacity?

Mark Valley talks to TV Guide about a whole lot of Fringe stuff. There’s a few spoiler hints in the interview so be warned.
Also, we’re not one of those fansites that intrude into the personal lives of the actors on the show – that’s just not how we roll – but we love “Fringe”, and it’s pretty awesome when a show like this can bring people together. None more so than Mark Valley and Anna Torv, who got married over the holidays. Congratulations to them both!
I think we should start calling Mr. Abrams “Hitch”! All we need now is for him to marry “Lost” and “Fringe”. Say what?

Mark Valley Interview – ‘John Scott Is A Believer’
January 30, 2009 by FringeBlogger Roco

Mark Valley, who portrays the dead/undead John Scott, took part in a conference call earlier today. He talks about the challenge of playing a dead guy who is still alive in Olivia’s consciousness, the joy of working with Anna Torv, and whether his character is a good or bad guy. The interview contains some mild spoilers:
So is his character a bad guy or just misunderstood?
Mark Valley: “Whether he’s good or bad, there’s a degree of guilt he carries around with him. He’s a real believer, really serious about what he does. He’s loyal to whoever he works for. The upcoming storylines do answer some questions that linger in my mind. (Like) who he’s been working for. It confirms the verity of his feelings for Olivia.”
And who might that be he’s working for?
Valley: “My theory is he’s working for the government and the postal service and he’s not very happy about it. He’s a disgruntled postal worker.”

Buddy TV Interview Mark Valley – Part 2

Here’s part 2 of the Buddy TV interview with Fringe star Mark Valley, who plays John Scott in Fringe. Part 1 can be found here, check out part 2 below:
You talked about the mysterious motivations of Agent Scott. After seeing the pilot you realize that there’s a definite duality to his character. Did the writers give you a lot of information on what those motivations were or did you just kind of end up playing it in the dark?Well, no the director actually changed the motivation at the end on me which was a little bit bizarre. The great thing about J.J. Abrams is that as an actor you can really put trust in the writers and producers and the story that it will all end up making sense, you know? That it will all end up coming from a place that’s a tribute to reality. I just kind of trusted what they have and what they say and go with each episode and make up the rest. Sometimes I get lost in the woods trying to write a backstory for a character. For a show like this it’s kind of best to just play it as it comes. Like William Shatner said…I’d say, “How do you know with this one line, I’m not sure how to say it.” He’d say “I cover that situation. If it’s a line I don’t understand, I just say it.” So that’s what I’m going with with John Scott. I just say it. But I think a little bit later on they’ll tell me more about the character. Where he’s from, what his motivations are. But, for now I just have to glean, and what’s actually fun as an actor is to read the script, see the situation, and just kind of extrapolate that in my imagination as a opposed to trying to get it out of the writers, and then just kind of go from there and then if it changes it changes, but usually it’s pretty close. Did that make any sense at all? I used the word “extrapolate.” You should be impressed.
I am impressed.
I was a math major in college, so there you have it. So this show kind of appeals to my scientific sensibilities. I don’t know anything about science, but they explain it easily enough where I can understand, so I like that.
You spent a lot of your scenes in the pilot working with Anna Torv. What was that like, you being the TV veteran, her making her first foray into American television?
Humbling. Because she’s classically trained. She went to NIDA, which is the big school (in Australia) – they only take a dozen to twenty people a year there. It’s not like going to the University of Ohio. She’s very, very talented and she’s done quite a bit of theater as well. And she also has a pretty impressive body of work. People say “Oh she’s a neophyte, she just showed up.” But there’s a lot of television out there besides American TV. She’s done quite a bit. She learns extremely fast. I felt like I was working …I felt like I was learning from her in some ways as well. In that respect it was fun. She’s just a lot of fun, she’s got kind of a wicked sense of humor. We had a nice time.

Buddy TV Mark Valley Interview – Part 1

Buddy TV have an exclusive interview with Mark Valley, who plays FBI agent John Scott in Fringe. Below is an extract from part 1 of the interview:
Hey, this is Oscar Dahl from BuddyTV and I’m here with Mark Valley, who plays Agent Scott on the new FOX show Fringe. Mark, how are you doing?
Hey, I’m doing well, doing well, thanks.
You guys had the big ol’ premiere in New York last night. How’d that go?
Yeah we did, it was quite an event. I mean, TV premieres are…I think it’s sort of a new thing. They decided that movie premieres are kind of a good excuse to get a lot of people, actors dress up and get their pictures taken, so they decided to do television as well. And, it was kind of exciting because the whole cast was there, the production team came out from New York. There was all the people from FOX and Warner Bros., it was really great to see everybody, to see that the show has so much backing and support.
The Fringe pilot, to be fair, is pretty much a full length movie in and of itself.
Yeah, it really is. It’s two hours long and for the rest of the series FOX has this concept that they’re gonna start really committing to the written programming with fewer commercials to make it a little more movie-like, make it a little more like something you’d see on cable.
Fringe has now been screened a few times to the public, the pilot was leaked earlier on the internet – what have you heard in terms of the critical/fan reaction?
I’ve just heard positive things. From what I’ve heard, it;s really kind of simple across the board – that they loved it, for a variety of different reasons. One of the things that’s interesting about what I think is going to be the success of the show is the fact is that it’s going to be really hard to describe exactly why it’s good. I mean, it’s a J.J. Abrams show, it has some of his signature positive aspects. There’s a really unique part of this show as well that people are going to be drawn to.
Can you talk a little bit about how you ended up with the role of Agent Scott? I read earlier that you were one of the first actors to sign on to the pilot.
Yeah, I think I was. For some reason, I don’t know how that worked. The show doesn’t exactly revolve around me, that’s for sure. I was cast pretty early on and I think it was just a matter of me being in Los Angeles at the time they were casting it. Some of the producers were familiar with some of my work and they thought I’d be a good fit for that one particular role.
