John Noble Q&A – TVNZ

John Noble

Fringe premieres in New Zealand on July 1st – to help promote the launch, TVNZ have an exclusive Q&A with Fringe star John Noble.

1)Tell us a little about your character Walter Bishop.
Walter is an exceptional intellect. A scientist who has been involved in cutting edge work. He suffered a breakdown 20 years ago and was incarcerated in a mental institution. He was subjected to treatments which have left him a shell of his former self. He has suffered  memory loss, has paranoia, physical impediments and has lost whatever social skills he may have had.
For all that he has a good basic moral sense buried somewhere. His forced reconciliation with his son has caused him to have an awakening of sorts. He is a man on the path to redemption. He will face many unpleasant recovered memories on that journey.

Get to No-ble John

John Noble

USA Today have an article on John Noble and his “Fringe” counterpart, Walter Bishop:

“The Elegant Universe. This Is Your Brain on Music. The Stuff of Thought. The Essential Chomsky.
That could be the reading list for Dr. Walter Bishop, the mad scientist of Fox’s Fringe. But it’s actually the recent reading list for John Noble, the actor who has helped make Walter a breakout character on Fox’s paranormal drama, which returns tonight (9 ET/PT) for Season 1’s final six episodes.

It’s not surprising that Noble, known for playing Denethor in two Lord of the Rings films, feels a connection to Walter’s curiosity.
“I think at my better moments, there is a lot of me in Walter — I hope not including his mental illness — but in the strange sense of humor and the general interest in things,” says the Australian actor, who has modeled his accent after that of Boston’s cultured class.
