If the Fringe Graphic Novel isn’t enough to satisfy your appetite for the Fringe extended universe, you might be interested in a new six-issue comic miniseries from Wildstorm Comics, titled Tales From The Fringe.
The series is said to take place within the Fringe universe, meaning it will explore stories that we might not necessarily see on the show itself, but will add extra context to the Fringe mythology. As with the original comic series, it looks like each issue will contain a main story focusing on our main characters, and a looser second story.
The first issue lands June 23rd, 2010, for $3.99. Head past the jump to read the official description from Wildstorm Comics.

As most of you probably know by now, Fringe is on Lowatus until January 14th, when it returns with four new episodes until the “winter finale” on February 4th. Fox are running repeats to fill the gap, starting tonight with the season 2 premiere, “A New Day In The Old Town”. A pretty great episode from what I can remember.
Despite the absence of new episodes for a while, there are a few news items, so let’s crack on with the latest bits and pieces that we haven’t already featured on the blog.

Since Fringe is still a couple of weeks away from returning, I thought I’d take a few minutes to share my personal observations of the possible eastereggs and clues from the latest Fringe comic – Issue #3. As the comic contains two separate stories, I’ll start with “The Escape”, and post my observations from “Run Away” at a later date.
Clue #1 – Scanners

Dr. Matheson uses a biometric hand scanner similar to those that are prevalent throughout Massive Dynamic. Matheson even looks a little bit like a younger Nina Sharp. Although, I suspect that this parallel might be more to do with the possibility that Massive Dynamic are the modern day incarnation of the Fresh Start Soap Company, than Matheson and Nina being the same person.
Further to that, the scanner seen in the comic, the events of which take place during the 1970′s era, might also allude to the idea that the ‘Fresh Start’ company were way ahead of their time.
Clue #2 – The Root(beer) of Walter’s Senses

“It’s just…I smell popcorn” – Walter displays a confusion of his own senses; smelling things that are seemingly not there. This suggests that Walter’s synaptic transfer with Dr. Matheson was the cause of his random cravings, and confused state of mind. The mind-meld that he experienced could well have been the first of many explorations which left a piece of another person’s senses inside of Walter’s consciousness (and vise-versa).

Issue #3 of the Fringe comic series was released yesterday. The comic features the main Bell/Bishop back-story called “The Escape” - a continuation from the previous issue, and a stand-alone story titled “Run Away”.
Both stories serve as an excellent extension to the Fringe Universe, with the second story “Run Away” being my personal favourite of the two. We have a few scans from each story that we’ll share with you below. Continue below and after the jump to view a sampling of what awaits you in this latest Fringe comic:

As we mentioned the other day, issue #2 of the Fringe Comic is now on sale! The comic once again consists of two stories – “Excellent Soap”, providing some terrific back-story on Walter Bishop and William Bell, and “Strangers on a Train”, which is a more stand-alone story, with references to the main Bishop/Bell story. FringeBloggers will only post a few scans from each story as we want to support the creators in making more of these, if you like what you see, please consider purchasing a copy from your local comic store. Issue #2 of the Fringe Comic is released tomorrow, Jan 28.
This straight from the Wildstorm website: “The secret history of Walter Bishop and William Bell continues in this exclusive tie-in to the hit Fox show Fringe! Witness their first attempts at pushing the boundaries of science and reality!” Price: $2.99 (US)
Mike Johnson, who is one of the Fringe comic writers, spoke to Comic Book Resources about Fringe comic #2 and reveals some hints about the remainer of the series:
Johnson revealed the next chapter in Bishop and Bell’s early history is explored in “Fringe” #2, on sale on this week. “Things get even weirder for them,” laughed Johnson. “By this time, [Bishop and Bell] are sharing a lab and starting to experiment with things that the university would probably not approve of, if it knew about them.”
The budding relationship serves as the plot thread stringing the six-issue miniseries together. A series of backup features, telling done-in-one mysteries, are also included. “Each issue in the series is divided into two parts: the first half, or A-story, will continue the story of Bell and Bishop, while the second half, the B-story, will be a self-contained short story with unconnected characters that plays on a different Fringe-y concept, with subtle ties to the show itself,” Johnson explained. “The A-stories with Bell and Bishop form one over-arching story that culminates in both ‘Fringe’ #6 and the pilot for the show, so make sure you watch it again. And the B-stories are each self-contained short stories. We are all huge fans over here of ‘The Twilight Zone’ and ‘The Outer Limits,’ the classics, so our B-stories are homages to sci-fi parables like the ones in those shows.”
