In the stunning first season finale, Olivia traveled to an intriguing parallel universe to meet with Massive Dynamic founder William Bell (guest star Leonard Nimoy). Season Two opens with her shocking return to this perplexing alternate reality, while Peter, unknowingly in a race against time with an ominous mobile force, pursues information about Olivia’s visit. Walter reenters the lab to cook up a bit of fringe science, and of course, some custard for Peter’s birthday in the “A New Day in the Old Town” season premiere episode of FRINGE airing Thursday, Sept. 17 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. After reading that, I’m rather confused — the wording is rather strange.
“Season Two opens with her shocking return to this perplexing alternate reality” — so is she returning to our reality, or the alternate reality? The use of the words “this” and “return” makes me think our reality, but then it goes and mentions “perplexing alternate reality” which seems to imply the other one. How could she return to the alternate reality if she’s already there? But if she’s returning to our reality, why did they describe it as a “perplexing alternate reality?”
“Peter…pursues information about Olivia’s visit” — Is our Peter looking for information regarding Olivia’s visit over there, or is it the alternate Peter looking for information regarding Olivia’s visit over there? Of course, I’ve always been of the opinion that there is no alternate Peter since he died as a child/Walter kidnapped that universe’s Peter and brought him here. I hope they’ll clear that up sometime soon.
I do think it could be fun, us not knowing which universe we’re in, and having to look for clues that would indicate a universe different from ours. Just so long as it doesn’t become too complicated to keep things straight.
I also found it strange that Mark Valley was included in the cast list. Was that just a mistake, or is he really going to make an appearance? If so, would it all be in flashbacks (scenes we’ve already seen) or new things?
Do we know the timeline for how much time has passed on the show since the finale? Are we supposedly picking up where we left off, or are we starting weeks down the road from there?
