It’s an interesting question posed by the folks at io9, who believe that although Fox have gone viral-crazy and probably leaked the pilot themselves, the show itself is still pretty much a well kept secret. After all, aren’t we all still asking “what the heck is the pattern!?”.
The leaked Pilot aside, FOX and Bad Robot have done a good job in promoting the show without spoon-feeding an audience base who enjoy thought provoking television. Personally I wish they didn’t leak the Pilot, I mean was that really necessary? There’s always the risk that those who have seen it online wont bother tuning in for the September 9 premiere, and we know how important early ratings are. However, I guess you have to hand it to Networks such as FOX, it’s their way of regaining some control over their property.
Going back to spoilers, as a LOST fan I’ve remained spoiler-free all the way through, and it’s the best way to experience that show as far as I’m concerned. I’m not sure what approach I’ll take with Fringe, but I can certainly understand why a viewer would prefer to not know everything that’s going to happen weeks ahead of time. But the viral – yeah, keep that coming FOX!
