Everything we know about the plans indicates that Peter and Olivia will never meet if the time is reset and Etta will not be brought back to life!!

Hey Rick, do you think that Walter’s intro on himself could also apply to September ?

For sure. They are parallel characters now, in light of the recent Donald revelations. I really hope this finale is filled to the brim with clarity, and revelations, as well as action, and emotional closure to the whole family dynamic of the series. It is beginning to really hit me that this is the end.

Stunning.

Looks like Broyles will get captured.

Michael forces Windmark’s mind-reading effects back on him? (Windmark bloody eyed and blood coming from his nose, like with Walter in 5.01).

Ok so I watch this thing like 5 times in normal speed, and twice in frame by frame during the quick flashes.

Some notes:
- I saw Windmark laying dead-like on the floor with one of the belly slugs coming out of his mouth.
- I saw Sept-Donald holding up a canister filled with some amber colored liquid.
- I saw Sept-Donald inserting something into a box-like device in a hanger with the giant electromagnet still on the back of the truck.
- I saw the boy being examined by what seemed to be Observers, and not future scientists.
- I saw Peter holding Etta’s bloody necklace
- I saw an Observer materialize right in front of Olivia as she walks down a hallway on the other side (I think)
- I saw an Observer float up like that episode Os

This looks to be interesting! I cannot wait!

I am beginning to wonder if September and Michael have slightly different plans that what Walter have, and that it will be a combo of all three of them that accomplishes “The Plan”.

So it looks lik they have parts of both episodes in there. Michael being checked out as “Liberty” him and September in “fate”, probably some pretty dire things happening in “Liberty”- looks like Windmark has someone trapped with him, Broyles maybe. But I imagine the siege of Observer central being a major story element in Liberty. Also, all the science fiction gear from previous seasons seems to be coming back into play and we’re getting the team broken up probably-like some trying to get Michael some causing a distraction.

Thing is when Fringe does “action” it’s rough, people get hurt, there’s a reality, minus Olivia’s ability to get headshots. But it’s always messy as he’ll, plans go awry. That’s what has me so worried, check out some of the previous finales, the last two or three episodes of a season in Fringe, the intensity goes way up, and the team doesn’t always make it, think about the “Riders on the Storm” moment or the attack on the red universe-an anti-climactic event. This time, though there’s no net, just the end. Exhilarating.

That would be very interesting, and in no way would I say it’s a bad ending just as long as it stays consistent with what we have known in the show. However, personally I wouldn’t like it. If they were to win, then what does this all culminate to? What was the point of watching 13 episodes only to see them lose?

I’d say, if the Observers were to win, and for it to be satisfactory, they must begin to understand emotions and that enslaving the human race and treating them awfully isn’t right. There needs to be some sort of emotional revelation for either our characters or the Observers in the ending.

Okay that was a little on the spoiler-y side, thankfully a lot of the scenes were too quick cut to fully see what was happening and I won’t be watching it again to know. I want to know as little as possible now, no inferences. That being said, it looks epic and amazing (though I really wish they would choose other kinds of music for these trailers, been using the same ones for two years.)

Don’t know if anyone has theorised this yet but was wondering if the series will end a bit like Season 5 of Lost, where just like Juliet in that show hits the bomb to try to reset time leading to a white screen, the plan to reset time in Fringe will occur at the end also in a similar way leaving the show somewhat open ended.
The reasoning for this theory comes from hearing a recent interview with Joshua Jackson about the finale, where he alluded to it being anti-climactic but then quickly took that back and said it goes out with a bang (like Lost – Season 5).
This comment seems to allude to the fact that the series will end a little open ended to allow the audience to decide on events following the outcome of the plan.
So I’m guessing we will not SEE the outcome.
After all J.H Wyman did say you’ll get to know where the characters are EMOTIONALLY come the end – so then maybe not PHYSICALLY???

Definitely a possibility. Although I don’t know how I personally would feel about that. I don’t mind an open ending, if it were to be more like:

They reset time, there are now no Observers, and so we get a montage of things that all lead up to Red Peter who was cured as a boy and has always resided in the red universe, Meeting Blue Olivia, who was still subjected to Cortexiphan as a child, and was also raised by Blue Walter, because she went to him for help to keep from being abused. She grew up to lead a group of Cortexi-kids on a scientific info seeking mission to the red universe their group is called the Fringe division. When Red Peter and Blue Olivia meet they instantly form a bond, and have this funny feeling of Deja-Vu. (this will suggest that Peter is finally on his right destiny since he said he never has deja-vu) The end.

We all begin our Fanfic stories staring from that moment.

That is the kind of open-ended I’m expecting.

lol yeah i actually like your ending

I’m okay with it being open ended…where Wyman said we could kind of still imagine what the characters are doing. I just want him to address how this timeline change would really work since it’s pretty obvious to everyone the implications it would have on the characters.

A season 5 Lost white screen ending would really piss me off. That would be a huge cop out…though I don’t see Wyman doing that. As much as he pisses me off with his love crap and whatnot, I think he really does care about the characters. Hopefully he will do this right. This promo has me really excited and feeling more optimistic than I have in awhile.

Like your theory, Rick. Still convinced that the outcome of the reset will not be shown and left open ended. I would hate it if we went to a white screen at the end too, without a single hint of what the reset will accomplish.
Something tells me we will find out through Walter and he will explain to the team and us fans what will happen, but we won’t probably see it, allowing us to fill in the blanks.
I think J.J Abrams and his team probably learnt a lesson from the fan reaction to LOST how not to show where characters end up, as many hated how that ended. So maybe they won’t show this time around, merely suggest.
I am curious as to why Joshua Jackson initially said in his interview that it was going to be anti-climactic. Does he think that things are left too open ended? He did say that the end wouldn’t satisfy everyone!

I don’t know, I never saw the interview you keep mentioning about Josh saying it would be anti-climactic. For some reason I think you misheard, or misunderstood it, because he has been the #2 hype-man for the show’s ending behind John’s #1. All the interviews I have seen Josh says it is a really big ending, I did hear him say that maybe not every fan would feel satisfied, but that you can’t please everyone since we all take different things away from the show. He did say that the majority of the fans will love it. I don’t think they will leave us wondering if the reset worked, or anything like that, I believe we will know it worked, and I believe we will have the hope that our favorite little sci-fi family will continue to enjoy each other’s company.

I follow Chris Tilton (The composer who scores Fringe) and he said he was working on the longest piece of music ever on Fringe’s finale episode.

Here is the tweet:
“Just finished possibly the longest Fringe cue ever at almost 9min! (302 bars for those curious.)”

This makes me believe there will be a montage at the end. But I guess it could mean anything. 9 minutes is a long scene though. typically television scenes are 3 minutes each, so this would be like having 3 scenes incorporated into one long sequence. Just some food for thought.

I’ve re-listened to the interview with Josh Jackson, re the end of the series. It was posted on this website on 10 January. I may have misinterpreted what he meant but he does say, “There’s not really an anti-climax. I guess there is in a certain way for the show — we go out with a big bang”

To begin with I thought he was referring to the filming experience being anti-climactic. The rest of the cast have made reference to it not feeling like it is the end, in that context.
But it still does sound like he is referring to the final episode’s content. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but others have pointed out that Josh Jackson is very honest in what he says.

Re-the music score, that sounds like it will be so epic and no doubt beautiful.

That would be great if there were a montage, whether it is an emotional re-union with the characters following the reset or a montage of past moments from the series.
I know that John Noble has mentioned that many moments over the course of the past 5 seasons are referenced and recycled in some way, but it will be interesting if we actually see those moments as they first appeared through a flashback montage. Maybe when time is reset the characters see their life flash before their eyes.

Maybe the music cue is for the entire reset sequence from preparing it, the actual event and the outcome, which would essentially be 3 scenes in one.

Interestingly, the music backs the entire final 8 minutes of Lost. Assuming that the cue is for the end of Fringe this will likely be just as epic.

I wonder if it will be a completely new theme to reflect the time reset or whether it will be a long suite of all the Fringe soundbites heard before. I think the latter.

I went back and found the interview you’re talking about. Yes he said that There is an anticlimax of sorts, and that it will go out in a bang.

Firstly: (and I’m sure you know what Anticlimax means, but it seems there are a few definitions so I will post the definition(s) I found online.

an·ti·cli·max
n.
1. A decline viewed in disappointing contrast with a previous rise: the anticlimax of a brilliant career.
2. Something trivial or commonplace that concludes a series of significant events: After a week of dramatic negotiations, all that followed was anticlimax.
3. A sudden descent in speaking or writing from the impressive or significant to the ludicrous or inconsequential, or an instance of it: “Waggish non-Yale men never seem weary of calling ‘for God, for Country and for Yale’ the outstanding single anticlimax in the English language” (Time).

For argument’s sake I will go with the #2 definition that I put in bold letters.

So from what I gather from his interview, and this definition i have to say that a huge something will happen for most of the finale, then at the end a small little trivial something will be the ending. (I/E there is all this action leading up to a climax, that goes boom, then a nice epilogue type scene at the end to show us that all is well in Fringeville.

Thanks for the word breakdown! Your thoughts make sense. The ending scenario you described also backs up what Anna Torv said about the finale – that it is go, go, go, go and then a nice red bow at the end.
The red bow will be the montage / reunion / happy ending, accompanied by the 9 minute music cue.
Certainly agree that the series should end with a soft emotional character moment/s and not with a sudden left-field twist or Big Bang.

I think that is the far too obvious route…

…Thus it has to be wrong in my opinion. For one, if the Observers are extinguished from existence as we have known them, then that resets time all the way back to the big bang and any adjustments they might have made since then would also cease to exist in the form they did them. That aside, one thing that is for sure is that Walternate would not be distracted, and then Peter would be cured by his natural father, and most likely never have occasion to be kidnapped into the prime universe.

This does not however prevent Blue Olivia from eventually crossing over to the other side one day.

So here is one speculation that could work:

We know that Walter and Bell had already discovered the Alternate universe before the whole Peter situation. So it isn’t a stretch to realize that Walter would still go on to do the Cortexiphan trial, and Olivia would still be part of that, which would giver her the ability to cross sooner or later. We could also assume that Walter still made the Alternate universe viewing window, and saw how technologically advanced they were. This could lead to Walter using Olivia as a leader of a group called The Fringe division, which would be a scientific group, that comes together to travel to the Alternate universe on a fact finding mission. This would not be a malevolent mission, but a benevolent one. This would come to the attention of Walternate, who is still the secretary of Defense, and his son Peter could easily meet this Olivia and boom DejaVu.

I will admit I came in a little late. My uncle had told me about Fringe back in 2008 and I didn’t watch. The first episode I watched was “Bad Dreams,” and after that was the Season 2 premiere. I eventually went out and bought the first two seasons on DVD and finished just in time for the Season 3 premiere, which is where I officially got on board. I am terribly sad to see this show come to an end. And despite it’s…flaws, in recent seasons, Fringe always kept me hooked. Maybe it was the mythology, maybe it was the characters, maybe it was both. And for me and my family it became a Friday night tradition. Fringe deserves a lot more seasons than it has been given. Not to say that I’m ungrateful for Fox and WB giving us this chance to tie everything together, and for us fans to have closure. But that Friday night timeslot will be a hole in my heart for a long time.

For a lot of us, I think Fringe is sort of like Lost, in a sense that it’s one of those shows that will probably stick with us for a long time. Fringe has earned it’s place amongst science fiction legends. It is very rare that a show like this comes along, and when they end, it’s kind of sad.

Later tonight, we will reach the end of this five year journey. It is the last chapter in the chronicles of Olivia Dunham, Peter and Walter Bishop, Astrid Farnsworth, Phillip Broyles, and Nina Sharp. And what a great journey it has been. It has been quite an experience. Needless to say, thanks to the cast and crew of Fringe who made it all possible. But I also want to say thanks to Roco. Roco’s reviews, observations, and other articles made the series that much more fun and interesting. Noticing all the little things like the clues and overlapping themes that made Fringe what it is.

And to my fellow fans, your endless dedication to this series is what got us here. The level of intelligent discussion I’ve seen on this website have proven that. I’m glad to say I’m a part of this show’s fanbase. I think it is the dedication we’ve shown to Fringe alone that kept it alive this long.

Wyman, it’s in your ball park now. Bring it home.
