Hmm… Not sure how I feel about once again going down the “destiny” route, I thought they had done that to death. If this is referring to a character other than Olivia it would be intriguing but I highly doubt this would be to anyone else.

This whole story of Fringe has been about a destiny. This is the culmination of that destiny.

Are you sure?
I remember the showrunners (especially Pinkner) emphasizing in every interview that Fringe was “about choices”.
Choices are the opposite of destiny.
But that seems to be just one of those things that changed.

A teaser…really? What is being teased? I barely even heard the word ‘destiny’.

i’m guessing these will be tapes (that may not be addressed to anyone in particular, honestly) that were recorded before the group got ambered, and it’ll be another non-flashback device to help fill in some back story, and possibly begin to fill in the missing memories of walter.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out Walter is just talking to himself here. Recording a message for himself so he can remember how he needs to defeat the Observers.

“Destiny” will truly be in the hands of the those who have the ability to change the course of history (or histories). These opportunities may be very few and may also be a one-time deal because once the Observers are on to you and what you may plan, they may be able to stop the very few things that make them vulnerable. Peter has faced “destiny”. Olivia has faced “death” but she didn’t get the opportunity to choose in season 4. Walter made that choice when he shot her. So, if we are doing “destiny”, is it Olivia’s turn to choose and fulfill the “destiny” she did not choose but was made into.
Cortexiphan is not dead in he system, probably only dormant. She lost her daughter which could begin the activation sequence. Olivia is dealing with the desolation of this new world she’s awoken to. She is very empathic. Once she plugs into this devastated human condition (regardless if she wants to “understand” or not) who knows what may happen.

I think they are laying the groundwork for some sort of Cortexiphan revival, even if it doesn’t play into the story in a huge way. I think it has something to do with Etta not being able to be read in 4.19 and also in the clip from tonight’s episode when we see Etta’s abduction from Olivia’s POV, it seems like Liv knows something is wrong before it actually happens. There is a really close shot of her face to emphasize this.

Agree with you there, JodyA.
Peter chose to go into the machine and create the bridge to save both universes. Bell told Olivia she was the one but never got to be a true savior. Always had the choice made for her. So you’re right, her destiny remains unfulfilled.
I don’t think this is or should be Etta’s destiny. If it was then September wouldn’t have said Peter has served his purpose and erase him from existence. September would know if Etta needed to be born. Now how would that happen without Peter? He had no idea Walter and Olivia’s love for him would bring him back.
The reason I don’t think it should be Etta is because personally I don’t consider that to be a big pay-off and it basically means Peter and Olivia’s purpose was just to bring Etta into the world. Doesn’t seem fair and that’s not something that I want for these characters.
So as long Etta isn’t the key to everything, I’ll be okay with whatever this ends up meaning.

Jessica Holt quoted Bell as saying where Olivia was, you would find September. The way she spoke about September or Observers in general was a bit contemptuous. I would assume that, too, is Bell’s view of Observers. If the original 12 science Observers are concerned with Olivia as fulcrum of how life will continue on Earth, then she is “important”. We also cannot ignore from last year that Bell used her as (and referred to her as) “the redeemer”. He spoke about how with every beat of her heart she takes us to a new world. You can that that metaphorically too considering her empathic sensitivities.
Olivia is truly powerful but refuses to embrace that power. At least blue Olivia was. Yellow Olivia was not. Maybe she needs to rediscover this person. At the end of season 3 we saw an empowered Olivia who learned to control her power (The Day We Died). At then of season 4, Nina said that Olivia just lacked the confidence. Nina’s verbage was a little reminiscent of “Wizard of Oz” to me. Does Olivia have the power to shape or reshape reality? Bell had the power to do that somehow by tapping Olivia. Actually, Walter had developed it first. Is this how they will get rid of the Observers?

So Walter is in his lab coat and he recorded a message that he hoped that would be accessed in the future. . . . IMO it is the team he is addressing, not one person.
Remember that promo when Peter is coming down some stairs and he says something like the following, I don’t remember verbatim but he said; “This is what we were created for, this is our destiny.”
