J.H. Wyman has confirmed that Fringe will end with a three-part series finale. Hit the jump.

Speaking to Collider at this week’s Saturn Awards in which the sci-fi serial won Best Network Television Series, Wyman confirmed that the final three episodes of Season 5 will serve as a continuation, essentially making it a three part finale:

“The last three episodes are serving a continuum, so basically it’s actually a 3-hour [finale], but they’re not on the same night. It’s like a continuance, a lot of the story wraps up in three episodes at the end.”

You can watch the entire Wyman interview, in which he also speaks about his plans for the final season, in the player below, courtesy Collider:

Excellent.

Season Three technically had a three-part finale.

High hopes for this.

Also, great interview.

I have a great deal of faith in Wyman.

He knows that all of this is riding on him. I’m sure it will be fantastic.

I seriously cant wait I just finished my summer re watch and dvr of season 4. Well I skipped about 8 eps in season 4 which I already know about to get to the goods. Love fringe and going to miss it all in one.

But the great thing about fringe is that there are a lot of eastereggs’ and clues to keep my mind exploding for along time. As long as some of them actually weren’t just ideas but actual plot devices :) I will be utterly rewarded with a season 5.

In the last 3 star wars movies I didn’t like how everything was kept so neat and tighty in such a big universe. Everything seem to have a connection is not what I am expecting of Fringe. A resolution to to some major plots and tie backs will work as long as they are not overdone.
Some things are better left to speculate mentally while we still do need some answers to some the events surrounding are core characters.

I agree, we shouldn’t have answer to all questions and not everything needs to be neatly tied together in a nice big bow. Some answers and some ties would be nice, but it awesome to be able to speculate forever, and ever..and ever.

So that after Fringe ends there would still be room for fan fiction?

That was a great interview. Its awesome to see how much Fringe and the fans mean to him. I thought it was also interesting when he talked about how the network is involved in a 22 episode season. So basically the network is responsible for filler episodes. That is quite interesting. I guess if it was up to them they would be all continual mythology and story all the time.

I honestly think they wouldn’t have the story for 22 all-serialized episodes.
I think it was fine the way it was. Most heavily serialized cable shows have regularly 10-13 episode seasons, because otherwise there is always the danger of fizzling out.

My biggest fear Season 5 would be that it’s but just not Fringe anymore. It looks like Wyman is going for a VERY different structure and I don’t know how this will turn out….but we’ll see.

Well, and this:
It’s amusing how Wyman seems be to proud of winning “best NETWORK series” on a network …:D

Cool, a three-part finale. Hopefully, the wrap-up three-parter will really close the circle, although it would be nice to leave one or two cracks open for a small-screen or large-screen.

We are less that NINE…LONG…WEEKS away from the season premiere. OK so this is silly, but which special guest star would YOU like to see in the final season? (Please, no Dawson’s Creek folks, although Michelle Williams would be a good get)

For me, it would be Kirk Acevedo (although I guess that is not doable since they closed The Bridge). one of the Alias crew, such as Carl Lumbly (Dixon), Victor Garber (Jack Bristow), Brad Cooper (Will Tippin), or even Merrin Dungey (Francie Calfo). Terry O’Quinn from Lost and Alias would also do, although I guess he is hooked-up in 666 Park Avenue. Also, bring back Agent Jessup.

“Also, bring back Agent Jessup.” why?

leonard nimoy would be nice :-)

““Also, bring back Agent Jessup.” why?”

Because she was kind of interesting and…oh yeah she is hot. She is currently on the show suits. She is pretty good on there.

In season 5 I absolutely don’t need to see any irrelevant side characters.
personally I don’t think she was interesting, plus we already have olivia, etta and astrid in S5, how much more hotness do you need?? :-)

I never really knew why they even had Amy Jessop in 2.01 and 2.02. I thought she was annoying and irelevant for the show.

There’s a pretty direct reference to the X-Files in an episode of Fringe, don’t know if you know about it. In episode one of season two (‘New Day in the Old Town’), a senator says:

The old X designation, and your Fringe investigations, have been indulgences in the Federal budget for over half a century.

So Mulder and Scully did co-exist in this fictional universe, or rather it was a tongue in cheek poke at those who’ve accused Fringe of being an X-Files wannabe.

Roco, have any of the Fringe cast indicated what they’ll be doing once the series ends? Sorry if this is a bit off topic, although the talk of final episodes did bring it to mind.

Both Joshua Jackson and Anna Torv have said their just focusing on Fringe for now, Jackson added he wants a long holiday after its done and then worry about work after.

Thanks. It’ll be interesting to see where they all end up.

I suspect Anna, Der Uber Torv, may want to escape the punishing TV shooting schedules and pursue a movie career, although she may be in TV for a while longer. Looking at things that Josh has said and his overall behaviour, I’m guessing he’ll try to get into directing in a few years.

John and Lance, I suspect, are enjoying their roles as character actors, so they may stay in that zone, although Lance’s fascination with graphic novels may lead to him trying his hand at writing, although I don’t know much more about him than that.

I’d love to see John Noble as the lead in another high quality serialised sci-fi franchise – sci-fi needs him, though I could see him in a cop procedural, as a quirky, borderline character like House or Monk. He’s sure earned more recognition in any event.

Jasika, if her web site is anything to go by, has an artistic streak, and has interests outside acting, so she may end up pursuing those. She’s always come across like her character: gentle and very likeable, probably not liking the megalomaniacal and treacherous world of entertainment politics too much.

Of course this is all idle speculation about people I’ve never met (except in dreams where they feature a lot ;) ) and not great knowledge of them in general, but it’ll be fun to see if any of it has any validity.

Do you reckon it will end in 2012 or 2013??
I hope they just run all the episodes through with no breaks, instead of having hiatus’s (like that one in season three between marionette and firefly that was like 5 months long)
(:

“There’s probably going to be a few interruptions, but not many,” Kevin Reilly, President of Entertainment at Fox Broadcasting, told reporters after his Television Critics Association executive session panel in response to my question about whether the sci-fi series would run straight through for its last year. “Just the holidays [will be off]. [The series] will end in January.”

That would make sense.
10 episodes in a row until mid-December and the last three episodes as a big series finale in Januaray.

Well there is thanksgiving to consider. Most people who watch Fringe reguarlyare not going to watch on this holiday and then the figures are donw anyway, so why air it in the middle of standard holiday programming? Fox has done the right thing there.

They already answered the Nick Lane/Lincoln Lee mystery, so I hope he doesn’t try to change that connection in his ‘fanfiction’ 8-)…And really, people are STILL confused about the pattern?? *sigh*

I hope there will be no gimmicky guest stars, it would demean the show.

I hope there will be no return of former players, i.e. Amy, Charlie or any others let’s not muddy the water, just get on with how this adventure is going to end!

I hope they will not concentrate on unanswered questions, as Wyman said, that is so *rear-view mirror.*

I hope instead of rehashing old stories they concentrate on giving true fans what they want, 13-episodes we can believe in and an ending that will make us extremely happy. IMO
