I haven’t put out a whacked out FB theory for a while, so let’s change that shall we? Below the jump I speculate why we might not have seen the last of David Jones on Fringe, and go one step further by suggesting that he’s helping to shape one of the current season 2 story-lines.
Whatever astonishing feats he achieved on our world, in the eyes of William Bell he was always a failure..nothing “special”. It would seem fitting that alter-Jones made several of those “different choices” that Bell mentioned in his meeting with Olivia, to become a man of equal, if not superior scientific talents than Bell (certainly in terms of storytelling it would be poetic).

With this in mind I think it’s plausible that the person directing the shape-shifters from the other side is none other than their “insidious” creator, alter-Jones.
I admit that so far this is just a hunch. But there’s one strand which could possibly make this connection more solid: INFINITY.
If you’ve been following our Fringe Observations you’d have noticed that the infinity theme has cropped up on a few occasions this season. Most notably with the number “8“, mercury (shape-shifters bleed mercury, Roman God, Caduceus = medicine) and the appearance of a symbolic pear (long life).

In the season 1 episode “Safe”, Jones’ men had an infinity symbol on their van – a kind of sideways “8″ – suggesting that at some point the writers were offering subtle clues as to one of the larger arcs of the show. Our Jones may be dead, but assuming these clues haven’t been abandoned, I think it’s possible that this could tie in to Alter-Jones being the man behind the shape-shifters.
Okay, maybe it’s just wishful thinking on my part that Jared Harris isn’t completely done with Fringe. But we’ll see where the writers go with this one..
Likelihood rating: 5/10
Other possibilities are: Alter-Bell, our Bell, Alter-Walter or a completely new character/group.

Amen to that!
I so want to see Monsieur Jones again; I really, really hope that, in some form, your theory is true.
As for whacked out theories, try this one for size:
I’m not sure Alter-Walter was unaware that his son was being kidnapped. In the dream scene of Dream Logic; you see a Walter (we’re all assuming Alter-Walter, right?) in the mirror right before Peter is snatched from the side If Peter’s bed was directly in front of the mirror (which is what it looks like); then could Alter-Walter have been looking on while his son was being taken by our Walter? For what purpose? Some ‘exchange?’ Could Peter have be ‘borrowed’?
And when William Bell says Peter should be ‘a better man than his father’, which father is he referring to? The father that gives his son away for some other advantage? Could that explain why the Observer was looking at (what we assume to be) pictures of Alter-Walter in reference to destruction of our side?
Just putting out there.
ick, doubles
did bell kill his double, alter jones maybe, an evil cia or fbi? set to destroy our side and not just the population at random, if you have an alter jones, he must be a double-agent to the alter-verse set on planning the destruction of the political institutions of our side , cuz on this side he was up in the ranks of the zft. or it was the alter jones, and we have the earth jones to our aid, who is a great admirer of walter
or the alter killed his earth counterpart and is a double agent, who does bell know at md, are the liquid suits moc-ups of actual people, the observer is not alter, he’s alien, i think, if we cant stop the alter, observers will take earth and than take the alter, but w/ spaceships
earth:
zft, fbi, md, mad scientists, and spies
(and peter right?)
vs
alterverse:
zft spies, evil fbi, bell’s corp that looks like md, scientists kidnapped by evil fbi which include any earth villian duplicates, and bell
died here, join our cause from the other side?
what about the abilities of the guy who died in the first show?
can the zft be stopped
i woke up at 1700 and found this code in fringe reviews
