Nina was about the only one Over Here who seemed to be able to tell the difference between the two Olivias.

It seems like that ! , Peter is manipulating Olivia’s feelings as how Fauxlivia did to him ….. I can’t read if he is honest or not !

Someone should put Olivia on the right way , the poor is depressed , thinking the other her better , I don’t believe that !

I feel sorry for both Peter and Olivia! But, I think (and hope) that they are on their way to recovery.

Thing is…at this point, we don’t know how much of what Peter says to believe any more, do we? It’s always interesting to see these little snippets out of context, as they can turn out to have an entirely different meaning in the context of the show.

I wonder if Olivia’s disclosure to Nina about Olivia’s insecurity, her Fauxlivia-envy, is more meaningful than we realize. I always find Nina’s expressions — like when she stared meaningfully after saying it must have been awkward — totally inscrutable. Is she empathetic? Is she probing for information she’ll later use against Olivia? Has Nina experienced a similarly weird situation(!)? Is she comforting or probing? I can’t tell!

And as for the Olivia and Peter exchange, Peter’s being admirably patient and reassuring to Olivia. She needs to work this out and it’s probably good that she’s doing it verbally instead of alcoholically!

Nina could be both probing AND comforting. The character of William Bell was reinterpreted after Leonard Nimoy was brought onboard to play the role. Before that he was maybe evil or at least ambiguous. Then he was reinvented to be good or mostly good (can’t do anything about erasing those unethical experiments on children now). Because Nina was so closely associated with him, I would think that we can probably see her in the same light, as mostly good. There is evidently something about her relationship to Peter that we don’t know yet so I’m guessing that Nina–who will toy with others from time to time–has basically good intentions toward Olivia & Peter. Nina is the one who recommended Sam Weiss to Olivia, which we think was beneficial. Of course, maybe Sam exists only in Olivia’s mind. Or maybe Sam is evil. This is Fringe, after all.

I’m also impressed that Olivia is looking over the copies of the First people books Nina was creepily touching in the end of the last episode. In the past, when she is shown having things the Fringe team doesn’t know about, she hides them. Maybe season 3 Nina is not hiding as much (I mean, she still has her secrets, but she does appear to be more open)?

I think she definitely cares about Peter, at the very least. And I can’t remember the episode but I swear there is one time (season one?) Broyles calls Nina about something that happened to Olivia, implicating Nina was involved, and Nina says something to the extent of, “you know how I feel about her.” Maybe I am remembering that wrong but I think she is at least interested in Olivia’s well being.

I.Do.Not.Dig.InsecurLivia! I can’t imagine how you could reconcile someone masquerading as you and your inner circle falling for it, but I need Olivia to move on. This “love triangle” is feeling like dead weight that makes scenes just come to a screeching halt.

Olive, some advice, stop comparing yourself to Altlivia. Just work on reconnecting with Peter if that is really what you want to do. Sending Peter on a guilt trip everyday is not the way to have him fall in love with you all over again.

I’m not a P/O shipper, but c’mon already! Let’s move on a little already. In reference to Olivia’s complaint of being ” one step behind” the shapeshifter assassin in ‘Resciprocity’; could it be because you are too distracted thinking about Peter?

On the contrary, I think that the response of Olivia to “The Coffee Conundrum” offers a rare glimpse to how she actually sees herself with Fauxlivia. It seems that its not just a case of insecurity, but ‘failing to be the best’- she thinks that F-livia is a better version of herself. We always get the sense that Olivia feels that she’s never enough, and this manifests as ‘jealousy’ or ‘insecurity’. It can even be extended that this would be how Olivia acts when somebody becomes a part of her personal zone- that she would constantly size-up herself with ‘rivals’. I believe it is actually a natural response- I don’t really expect that after the “We can get past it”, that they will just really get past it. As what Olivia said, “She’s gone.. although I doesn’t that way at the moment…”. She’s still probably ticking a mental checklist of “The Things F-livia Do Better than Me “.

Though in the end, Peter still wasn’t able to explain why he got the wrong cup of coffee. Heh.

To me, bringing Olivia the type of coffee that Fauxlivia drinks means that he STILL can’t tell them apart.

Well, I’ve watched this about a thousand times now, and by this point, though he did mess up hugely with the coffe, I think Petah’s being honest about being proud enough, egotistical enough to think she’d change because of him, he’s basically confirming what Astrix said earlier, that all feelings Petah had where for OLIVIA, who he thought was her, and not Foe Livia as Roco says. It sure does earn him point in MY book….

I agree , that he can’t tell them apart ,, but if he is knowing from the start how Olivia likes her coffee … doesn’t that mean there was more difference between the 2 and he didn’t notice it ?

Is it the machine trying now to manipulate Peter to ruin what is remain between him and Olivia by bringing the wrong coffee ? … 2 months can delete what you have in 2 years ? how nice is that Petttttttttttter !!!!

For Nina … I think she would like to be sure that Olivia has nothing against Fauxlivia … why ? I don’t know !!

is it 9 yet ?

I like how they are handling this relationship. Typically in tv they don’t realistically explore relationships. I would have hated to see them just forgive each other because they are “SO in love” with each other *retch*. I don’t believe in soul mates – I think you have to consciously bust your a** to make relationships work and they are totally worth it when they do. And the coffee thing, well we all screw up. It was sort of thoughtless (in that he has other things on his mind) – haven’t you ever driven home to the wrong place after moving? Usually this happens when you are tired and distracted not because you subconsciously like your old place better….

VERY good point, I totally agree with you on this one, Petah’s gotta have SOMETHING (read BBM symbiotically influencing him to destroy worlds, which he’s trying to fight against…maybe) on his mind.

Great videos…and I’m glad he admits why he rationalized the differences but seriously…how arrogant is Peter to think being in love with him would make Olivia take her COFFEE??? differently…seriously? I think he likely suspected something was wrong but he was finally getting what he wanted and to admit there’s a wrong person in your life would make him deal with all those icky feelings. Plus Fuaxlivia probably was easier to be with and he got lazy and selfish and majorly arrogant and enjoyed the cream. Remember he still is rather amoral in many ways and probably didn’t want to dig too deep lest he find out his happy little fantasy wasn’t real.

Still kinda pisses me off that he really is that arrogant and self-centered and I’m a major p/o shipper. He knows Olivia but he choose to delude himself for his own benefit. Sad Peter, very sad.

I don’t really see Peter as THAT arrogant because he thought he was bringing out another side of Olivia. I don’t think it’s that absurd to think that Olivia would act happier if she were in love. I mean people do change somewhat when they are in a relationship. When you finally make that leap with someone it’s not uncommon for someone to be more open and “quicker with a smile” because something in their life has substantially changed.

Also I like the coffee thing a lot and while Peter did screw up by bringing Fauxlivia’s coffee to Olivia, we need to remember that Peter did the same thing in 6955 kHz. Remember he told Fauxlivia he had to go back because he forgot to have them put skim milk in the coffee. So the way I see it, Peter just got into a routine with Fauxlivia’s coffee tastes but he also had that routine with Olivia. I think it was just a legitimate screw up, not some secret harboring of wishing Fauxlivia was back.

Thankyou. Perfectly said bdp. I think Peter sounds very genuine with what he is saying to Olivia. He is not stepping away from it with Olivia which I like. Loved both scenes, but I’m also hating how this whole thing is being stringed out. It would of been better had they devoted serious time to it in an episode, where both Peter and Olivia talk about it and in doing so Olivia got certain things straight in her mind. Then we could of moved on for awhile.

I don’t think him screwing up and bringing the wrong coffee is a big deal, what bothers me is that when he knew how Olivia took her coffee with sugar and then they get back and suddenly it’s milk and he attributes that change (and those types of glaring changes) because she’s in love when him? Since when does falling in love make one change their daily coffee routine…if she likes sugar she’s suddenly going to stop because she’s in love with Peter?

My question is how could he rationalize such a ridiculous thing. Being in love does change a person and you will accommodate but I’m not about to drink my coffee differently for no other reason than ‘I’m in lurve’. Nor does “I’m reconsidering my life choices so I guess I’ll start small by changing to milk.” LOL!

Just tells me that the writers are making Peter super dense and arrogant with it comes to such things. He’s all….lalala she’s loves me so I can effect major changes to her personal tastes just by being here. Not cool IMO. Really brings his character down.

I watched this twice and walked away. Then I obsessed over it.
WHAT IF Peter gave our Liv FauxLivia-style coffee ON PURPOSE?
After all he’s dark now, and he’s off balance. What if he’s trying to
sabbotage the Liv/Peter connection. He is very well aware of her insecurities.
Perhaps he’s trying to throw HER further off balance so she screws up her work?
Just a thought.

I think it’s cruel of everyone to want Olivia to just move on. Olivia is the most consistently strong-willed female character I’ve ever watched, and I don’t think her having insecurities makes her weak. She shouldn’t have to just “get over it.” She’s done that enough. John Scott was someone who was seemingly in her life for a very long time, but she’s hardly ever talked about him since. She bottles her emotions a lot, and rarely lets anyone see the things she struggles with. But then something like this happens, perhaps the biggest invasion of privacy one could conceive, and people want her to just get over it? She was almost murdered for a science experiment while Peter was having sex with her double. I’m not blaming Peter by any means – I don’t think he’s in the wrong and it’s not entirely fair for her to be mad at him. But he’s the only person she can really lay it on right now. All of her sorrow and pain over her entire alt-world experience is being released into this relationship because I think it’s the only way she’s really able to voice what’s in her head. Talking to Peter about it, and talking to Nina, is just her way of grappling with the situation and moving on. Some people go through years of therapy for witnessing things Olivia sees everyday. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for something like this to make her crack, and I don’t think she’s weak for being disturbed still.

Pam February 4, 2011 at 3:23 pm

She may be pushing him away but, I feel like her insecurities are not unfounded. She is reacting exactly how a human being would react under the circumstances. I was not very happy to see Olivia throw a tantrum because Peter failed to see that Faux-livia was not her – it was tough on Peter too. At that point, I had kind of sympathized with Peter but, this, I think this doubt about where Peter’s emotions lie, is totally warranted. And, I think Peter should also probably put that question to himself – he might have already (we may not be privy to the inner workings of Peter’s mind) and might have realized that our Olivia is the one he is in love with; but, Olivia questioning Peter’s feelings for her are totally not out of the line. A woman needs to know that her man is really in love with her – and it is his responsibility to prove that (which is also true the other way around). So, if Peter feels like he is being pushed away, too bad! He is just not persevering enough to get hold of Olivia and that is his loss!

Honestly Peter should redeem himself for his sake , but after ep11 and with his dark side … and lies …… i can’t read peter … I wish to believe him ! we should concentrate and ask again … hmmmm .. still am not sure is that Peter or clone .

Olivia has the right to ask about every thing because she is the one who can put 2 in 2 together , if she will stop the war she will need Peter at her side just as how William Bell did tell her , so .. how she can be sure that he is not changing ? that he is not losing his love for her .. to another her ? … what if he will fall in love with Fauxlivia that he will destroy our world ? … what if he is lying all the time ? and why she was thinking about him while she was not herself ? …

I think the writers did a great job for this development .. it’s not forcing .. it’s logical .. and I think am just waiting another very good ep to add it in my fav so far :)
