Fringe is edging closer to a fifth season, according to the latest reports.

As per Seriable:

Showrunner J.H. Wyman posted another update on the future of the FOX sci-fi serial:

We feel SO positive about a pick up because our fans make people listen. They make people take notice. Have loud voices and are heard. xo

While the coveted fifth season is not yet official, Wyman noted:

We will get news this week. We feel really positive.

If this isn’t true, I’m going to get a bunch of Amphilicite and blow up the FOX building.

please please please please please please please.

PLEASE!

season 5, full 22 eps. I don’t even care if you make it the final season, i’m just a tired of the constant not knowing when it’s going to end. sure i would love 7 seasons and a movie. but i really just want to know when i need to start preparing myself for the loss of my most favorite television shows ever. i will need months, if not years to get over the fact that fringe is over.

so please FOX, let me not start to grieve yet.

Thanks,
from a loyal FOX fan from the x-files on.

After Season 4 being packed full of filler, I say no to the 22-episode season.

I surely hope that we will get a fifth season to “sob” close with dignity this unique and awesome show that is Fringe.

Nevertheless, I have one issue, if season 5 takes place in 2036 and follows letters of transit, it will mean no Olivia, right?

I know that we already missed deeply Peter at the beginning of season 4 so I cannot figure a fifth season without Olivia, what do you think, hopefully we will get a fifth season and hopefully with Olivia!

Long live Fringe!

I think that if season 5 were to follow on from “Letters of Transit” then it would be an every other episode thing like how the beginning of season three switched back and forth between universes each episode. I imagine there would be an episode set in present day (or in 2015) where they could have Olivia and the whole Fringe team and then the next episode would be set in 2036. They would hopefully continue this pattern for the rest of the season. This is all speculation of course but I’m hopeful that this is what the fifth season would be about.

This. This sounds like a genius plan for season 5.

I’d go further and say that if we get a 5th season, Olivia will be in more episodes than not. It’s pretty clear now that she’s a huge asset to the show. The 2036 dystopia still stands as a possible future, but I don’t think we’ll be spending most of our time there.

I am emotionally drained from the roller coaster news of will or won’t it be renewed. Fingers still crossed though.

Last year was worse, this season the idea of a 1/2 season makes it almost certain compared to last year’s “moved-to-friday-part-of-the-way-through” vibe.

The DVR numbers are ridiculous, last week had I think 60% gain to bring back to 1.9.

That was actually 2 weeks ago. Last week had a 80% gain, from 1.0 to 1.8.

A full 22 episode season would be great, but I think it’s unrealistic. I’ll be happy with 13 episodes.

The reason DVR’s excite me is because of NETFLIX. That’s our last hope just in case.

Also how great is to see FRINGE in a good news headline?

The Nielsen fan base is as steady as could be considering that this is a serialized show. It goes from 1.8 to 2.1 depending on the week. But the average from the last 2 years is 1.9-2.0, so I think we are still in a good zone.

Obviously the problem with the Nielson idea is that with the TV landscape has moved more to internet, DVR or on-demand ways. They still don’t add any other viewing habits into how much advertisers pay-basically forcing the owners to give buyers amazing prices as the TV ratings drop-off. Show’s like Fringe are right on the lip as we have to imagine shows developed now are probably planning on using internet and such.
Also-nielson is a joke, really bad system they monopolize. Really, wish there was a Fringe episode dealing with how weird that stuff is.

They had the same guy who always does their voices, I think they recycled some of his lines from other specials, or that he did them all like 15 years ago.
“for the 30th anniversary of Fox….For the 40th anniversary of Fox…For the 750th anniversary of Fox broadcasting….for the year 201000 of the Fox era…”

Please PLEASE full seaosn 5. And .. hell, how about a season 6 while you’re at it. This show will do great in syndication sicne the only reason people dont tune in every single week live is because they haven’t heard of it before. Part of the way FOX saves money on fringe is by never advertising it anywhere! C’mON renew it!!!

The whole thing comes down to advertising revenues. If FOX doesn’t feel the viewership is large enough to sustain advertising revenue the show will get axed regardless of how anyone feels. In the business world it is nothing personal towards Fringe fans or how much they love the show or even how much anybody at FOX loves the show. It is economics unfortunately.

Having said that though if there is a renewal, Season 5 will be the last if only a half season. The show has dropped its ratings slowly over the last couple of seasons and that cannot be sustained. And none of the poor ratings has anything to do with the fine ensemble of actors who have done magnificent jobs with their roles even as complicated as they have been. The show will certainly propel their careers regardless.

No matter what though I will always consider the show to be in my top ten. It is very unique from a story telling aspect in addition to the excellent acting, special effects and dialogue. But quality and television are sometimes mutually exclusive.
