Great interviews. We are so lucky that our cast is as deeply in love and as passionate about this story and characters as the fans are. Interesting the last two set of interviews (Gone and this one) have such a different tone. Josh is normally like a kid hopped up on candy, but he’s somewhat reflective and serious about what’s happening to Peter and his relationships. We can nit pick about much on this show, but not how much the cast cares.

It’s great to see Josh really stretch his acting skills. As someone said in an interview, Josh believes more than anyone in the lines he delivers. It does show. He’s really very, very talented and I can easily see him as leading man material in a broad range of TV/movie types.

Hopefully both Walter and Olivia continue to show/tell Peter how much they love him. That might be what saves him in the end.

Really enjoying the character study this season. Hurry up Friday!

Can’t agree more-Fringe might not be the most popular show on Tv with mainstream sci-Fi blogs like io9 trashing it constantly since it gets more comments than lauding the program, but the crew create a great show. While it seems the show is quickly ending I hope it doesn’t quickly fade.

While Josh normally let’s loose in these interviews I think the staid outlook is that as these big shows end, think LOST, the cast move from thinking about episodes to dealing with character defining performances, and while season finale performances deal with a lot series finales show more, somehow. I think all the cast interviews are a bit different this year, guess the timing is off. Whereas they would just be swinging into gear now the season is half over-normally they would just be getting ready for winter break. That might be another reason the interviews are off.

Does Io9 trash the show? What sci fi shows are they praising? I don’t think there’s been a better sci fi show than Fringe in a long time.

I thought I had read favorable articles at io9 on Fringe before. But that we before season 4, so maybe they got hard on it after that. Even so, I hope people/critics who hated season 4 have come back to at least give season 5 a chance. It’s been blowing me away so far.

Josh deserve this, to have closure on his character and final story of Fringe, and my final and wild guess is that in the end there will be major reset, back to beginning of Bell and Walter, and somehow, there wont be Jacksonville trails, no breaking the universe and no Peter meet Olivia. Maybe even no Peter. But they will all lead happy and normal life, just like they would if Fringe division didn’t happened. I would love happy end for all these characters, but I would be more impressed if writers decide to go on differently path. By witnessing killing Etta, most of fans want reset, and it is somehow plausible with Fringe ongoing “contextualize”, but godamn, I wolud loooove angsty end.

I think the majority want a reset but I really really don’t. I don’t see the point of making bold moves if it can all be fixed in a minute. Then it’ll just be like this whole journey they took us and these characters through didn’t even matter in the end. What a waste would that be?

The interview: I’m not too keen on where this storyline seems to be headed. Almost feels like I’ve already seen this before – Peter will be lost and Walter and Olivia’s love will bring him back. Sort of like the way their love brought him back into existence. I’m also getting a little tired of the way Peter-Olivia just keep pushing each other way.

      Season 4:

      Olivia: I love you.
Peter: Go away, you’re not my Olivia.

      Season 5:

      Olivia: I love you again.
Peter: Go away, I have Observer tech in my head and need to avenge my daughter’s death.

Enough already :P I hope this isn’t what we see all the way to the finale.

Peter going to the Dark Side of the Fringe only makes me think more that of The Big Three, he is the most likely to not make it until the end of the show. (Who knows, maybe Olive will end up with Anil…) Of course, quoting Walternate, not everything is at it seems, and maybe Peter will turn out to be a good guy in the end.

I have said several times previously that Peter will die somewhere down this season’s road. He will die in the AmberVerse, just as he died in the BlueVerse and would have died had September not saved him and Walter after Walter’s (kidnap and return) from the RedVerse. I still hold to that theory, and perhaps there will be a reset to some time before Peter steps into the BBM. It was that event that reset the timeline.

In any case, I am belted in for what looks like is going to be an awfully bumpy ride.

One other thing in this stream of consciousness…I am sure it has occurred to you all as it has to me…weird that people who used to be able to see all possible futures now can’t even do that. All they are is mind readers. Maybe it’s the CO that did it.

Great cast interview to start my morning! This has me all the more excited for Fringe Friday (tech Fringe Sat for me)

It’s going to be interesting to see how Olivia & Walter deal when they find out what Peter has done & the fact that he is now lying ti them and even more so once we see the ramifications of Peter inserting the tech.

Funny, Sam. Although, I do understand your frustration with the Peter/Olivia back and forth, however, I think it keeps the relationship interesting.

Sometimes when a couple finally get together, you lose the tension that engages you in the first place (i.e., Moonlighting). By keeping tension between Peter and Olivia, without sacrificing their love for one another, makes their troubled story okay.

Now, if Wyman and team decide to kill-off one of them or have them never meet (as our friend stated above), I would be extremely annoyed and disappointed. With that said, it’s not in our hands. We just have to trust the writers to bring this awesome show to a proper close.

I wish Friday would get here!!!!!

Plus I think the writers have really done a excellent job with P/O in that they feel like a married couple grieving their daughter.
Many shows when they keep breaking up a couple it gets tiring but I never feel that way with P/O. That’s a credit to the actors and writers.

Scully8, I’ assuming you were an XFiles fan? That show was my fave until Fringe came along. It’s still a fave but I can honestly say that Fringe has done a much better job of handling the love story of P/O than Xfiles did with M/S. There’s reasons for that of course, since Chris Carter didn’t decide to almost the end to put them together but all that stuff they did with M/S’s baby was so badly handled it still pisses me off.

Yes, ML, I am a huge Xfiles fan. :)

I totally agree that the P/O relationship has been handled very well. Like you, I believe it’s because the writers have been able to keep their story fresh and interesting while the actors have kept us engaged with their realistic and soulful portrayal as this very much in love married couple.

In terms of M/S relationship. It didn’t matter what Carter tried to do, everyone including the actors knew that M/S were destined to be together. David and Gillian had chemistry from day one which translated in their character’s interactions.

    Good posts!

Interesting about the “reset”. There was only 1 “reset” that had two major impacts on the show. First , no dead Olivia in 2026 and second, no Peter in 2012. People make it sound like Fringe uses a “reset” to solve all problems/holes in their story. They simply do not.

Sam, I think people want the happy end and the only “simple” way appears to be a reset to some time at or before the park scene (that can mean many things). I don’t think people want a reset per se. I would love to not see a reset, but that means no Etta, but potentially another baby born after 2036.

I also cannot imagine that all survive. That’s just too easy and althougth I love them all, I think at least 1, maybe 2 will not survive. I’m ok with any of them dying after seeing 505. Peter is going down a terrible path (personally, LOVE this storyline) and Walter is going to have to deal with “breaking the universe” at some point. Honestly, Olivia might be the one who is going down the right path, doing her very best to reach out for help, comfort and love. God bless her for trying to be more emotinally open and allowing other to help her heal and grieve.

JG — I hope you’re not right about one of our heroes having to die for the end to make sense. Is it really necessary for death of a hero to be in the end game? I also don’t think there has to be a reset. If Etta remains dead, but everyone else survives, isn’t that enough of a bittersweet ending. I think Wyman has said that he intends to leave a hopeful ending. I guess there is hope even if one of our heroes dies. I sure hope not.

I just don’t see how all three survive, specifically Walter. Just not a good feeling about it. I think the only sure survivor will be Olivia for some odd reason. Trust me, I just love these characters and want them all to live, I just don’t see it with the darkness of the season. I love the darkness too.

What makes this show fascinating to me is that it can go so many ways. As much as I think Olivia lives due to her choice to take another path in terms of healing and valuing her family (and for something good to happen), I can see the “you must die in every timeline” coming true. I also love listening to everyones opinions…addicted to it.

With their current journeys, I’m more unsure of what I think will happen, but clearer on all the options on how it will end. Watch it be none of them.

I agree with you all. I *hope* they all make it to the end….but sadly, I don’t think they will. I do think the show is about Walter’s redemption for what he did. I think he has come to peace with it and has learned from it. Now he is playing the older, wiser father — trying to help P/O relationship and keep his son from following in his footsteps and making the same terrible mistake. What better redemption could there be for Walter, aside from being able to *fix* his mistake, than to keep his son from making the same one…bringing him back from that dark side that Peter has so rapidly crossed to?

Regardless of how it turns out, I’m sure John Noble will just slay us all with skill and emotion. That guy gets me no matter what he’s playing.

Torv said in an interview that her accent has changed a bit since working on Fringe and having to use an American accent. I guess sort of a mash-up of American and Aussie.

I did listen to this interview and a few words she said reminded me she spent some time in England. She is from my city by I can detect she is getting a mixed accent from living in so many different places in last decade of her life.

I have British and Scottish relatives whose accents have changed tremendously over the years living in the U.S.A. I believe Fringe is filmed in Canada and Anna lives in America. That could be what is happening, her lovely accent is disappearing. :-(

Just a theory. I haven’t read any spoilers. Since Peter’s emotions may be slipping away due to the Observer tech maybe Olivia puts the ring back on Peter trying to get him to remember their relationship.

I’m surprised he lied to her. I would like to point out that bad things happen, particularly to Olivia, when Peter lies. She got killed in TDWD b/c he lied to her about the key, and when he lied about the shapshifters, although not directly related, she got Bellefied. And I’m sure there are other examples, they’re just not coming to me at this late hour. You’d think he would learn his lesson and not lie to her. She is always the one who pays…

It’s probably due to all the childhood issues.

Don’t forget, this is still the ‘original’ Peter to us. The same guy from Season One. The one who was kidnapped from his true family at a very delicate age.

To the other characters (bar Olivia) he just appeared.

It’s who Peter is. Joshua Jackson described him early on as someone who is not so much immoral as he is amoral. Peter was introduced to the audience as a con man with a 190 IQ. He does not wear a white hat or a black hat. More of a charcoal grey.

I am reminded of the scene in 2.3 (Fractured) where Peter and Olivia are in the Baghdad coffee house, and his Iraqi contact (probably physically scarred from one of his dealings with Peter) said that more than anything, Peter was good at looking out for himself.

Actually, to me this is good continuity. When we met Peter in the Pilot he was a con man, and tricking others was his bread-and-butter. So it’s very believable that lying is one of his skills.

No I get that its part of his history. He lied to both Walter and Olivia in S3 too when he was killing shapeshifters. I was glad he came clean with Olivia after they got together though.
I just hate to see him lying to Olivia like this since they have been together for quite a number of years now.

I just seen latest episode and this interview. It is certainly interesting what goes on with this Peter with this observor tech he inserted into his own head. Not sure where it is headed but seems his human senses are being altered to some extent. He was *seeing* with different eyes at end of this recent episode.

This Peter is still from the alternate universe to begin where Walter took him from Walternate’s universe as a little boy. When the bridge of both universes was in existence somehow I find that the fuzziest part of this whole series as it somehow became a different timeline where Peter never existed but somehow he turns up again only for Olivia and Walter not recognize him because he has not been in their timeline before popping up….

BUT, later on this 3rd Olivia character of series that basically had Nina Sharp as a mother figure morphs into a new version of the original Olivia that loved this original Peter.. what a mixed up story…lol…

Meanwhile an observor named September tells Peter this is his Olivia and also tells him something about a child being born…. But Bolivia from Walternate’s and original Peter’s universe already had a child.. Henry I think and Peter was the father…but at end of season 4 the bridge of both universes is removed and Peter and Olivia end up having a baby girl named Henrietta… over 20 years later she dies….So my mind wonders what is going on in Walternate’s universe…. is there observors only in Walter’s universe and they never invade from the future like they do in Walter’s universe and what is going on with Lincoln, Bolivia, the other Boyle’s and the boy Henry ??? I wonder if any aspect of this comes into play in remaining episodes of the series.
