And the winner is of the book is..

Congratulations to lost-fringe who was chosen at random by our lucky number generator!

Thanks to everyone who took part.

FIRST: What’s the book about?

The book features “a collection of essays that brings an intelligent eye to the science, science fiction, and pseudoscience of Fringe. It’s from Smart Pop Books and is edited by Kevin R. Grazier” (who you can also see on the “Behind the Real Science of Fringe” featurette on the season 1 DVDs).

Front Cover:

Here’s Grazier’s introduction to the book:

Fringe has always been more than the sum of its parts—but its parts, too, are worth a closer look. The show combines a surfeit of mad science, some old-school sci-fi flair, and a dash of strawberry-milkshake whimsy to create the challenging, fascinating Pattern that keeps us coming back season after season and universe after universe.

Now, in Fringe Science, cutting-edge scientists, science writers, and science fiction authors and historians provide a smart, savvy, and accessible look at the world(s) of Fringe.

  • MIT physics professor Max Tegmark illuminates the real-life possibilities of parallel universes
  • Stephen Cass, founding editor of Discover‘s Science Not Fiction blog and a Senior Editor with Technology Review, unravels Fringe‘s use of time travel
  • Award-winning science fiction historian Amy H. Sturgis walks us through the show’s literary and television ancestors, from the 1800s on
  • Television Without Pity staff writer Jacob Clifton looks at the role of the scientist, and scientific redemption, through the ever-shifting role of Massive Dynamic
  • Garth Sundem, bestselling author of Brain Candy, explores the mysterious way that memory works, from why Walter forgets to how Olivia remembers
  • And more, from lab cow Gene’s scientific résumé to why the Observers should be wearing white lab coats

I don’t know if I like this idea of just posting a post without being suitably challenged, you know, to earn it. Then again, it would be nice to have something Fringie to temper the mild depression and withdrawal I will be going through because of the the upcoming 1 week Fringe hiatus. Besides, “There’s nothing like a little cautionary tale to get kids interested in science, right?”

I am probably THE #1 Fringe obsessed fan! Most people are usually addicted to some drug or drink, me…FRINGE! I own ALL of the DVDs & have watched them obsessively every day since June of this year when I started watching because I of course have all of the Dawson’s Creek DVDs & Josh Jackson is THE best looking, most charismatic, intelligent, underrated actor in Hollywood & then I fell in love with all of the other actors & the show. The most brilliant show that is on & I believe has ever been on TV. I get bored with the shows on TV because they are predictable & none of them let you really engage your mind until Fringe. I have the wallpaper on my pc, on my cell & my ringtone is the Fringe theme song. I have even changed cell carriers because the one that I did have didn’t offer the music. I have a Fringe cup I carry around with me along with a Tshirt! I have not been anywhere in the past 3 months that I haven’t talked to someone about the show! I love when discussing the show with people, bringing up little things that are not so noticeable to everybody & pointing them out. THANK YOU SO MUCH for never ceasing to continue to amaze us & for choosing such an awesome cast!

FRINGE is my favourite thing, my lifeline, it tethers me to the world and FRINGEBLOGGERS is like my safety line. I love the theoretical scientific aspect of the whole thing. It makes my world go round and thinking about it and the implications takes up a lot of my time. I would wear that book out! Thanks for the contests/opportunity!
