Said it b4 and ill say it again, I love Josh Jackson’s interviews. Its great that after 5 seasons he still finds things interesting and that he is just as big a fan as we all are; but at the same time is not afraid to point out the flaws of the show.
Actually, I will always be greatful to Josh Jackson as (unknowingly to him) he is the reason I watch Fringe in the first place. I knew him predominitly from the Mighty Ducks movies and some other minor things (and no I did not watch Dawson’s Creek). I enjoyed his work and appreciated his appreciation for Canada (as a fellow Canadian myself), so when there was this new show with Josh Jackson, I was going to give it a shot (I was, at the time, not even that into sci-fi). So, in the end, if it was not for Josh Jackson I would not have even given Fringe a look, but boy am I glad I did; it has turned into one of my favorite shows of all time (and I watch a good amount of TV).
Now I feel as if I gotta give props to the rest of the cast…sooo…blanket thanks to all, you guys knock it out of the park every week. (Especially the alt universe stuff, it was freakin awesome).
ps. I hope Jasika gets some good screen time in the finale, she deserves it (especially after she has been kept on the sidelines for most of this season)

His interviews are tremendous. Very thoughtful. I would love to see an interview with him a year from now.
While seasons 4 and 5 have been good, I still have some sort of gut feeling that erasing the timeline after season 3 wasn’t good for the show. But I think that affected season 4 more than season 5.
Anyway, I guess that’s water under the bridge. So many good moments. I’m just shocked Fox gave it a season 4 and 5 given its ratings.
May it live a long time in syndication and may many more people be exposed to it there.
Hot debate. What do you think?

Even though there were times that the creative decisions taken by the writers didn’t always work out, you’ve gotta applaud them for being courageous and constantly trying to reinvent the show and recontextualising how we view it. Back in season 1, it would have been easy for the writers to stick with the monster-of-the week format, after all it was getting them pretty good ratings. But you could tell that from the moment that Fringe introduced narrative plot points like the AU, it wasn’t a show for the faint hearted. They wanted their audience to take an active role in the show as they speculated, theorised and pondered for five mindbending seasons. Heck, even simple inbuilt devices within the show such as glyph codes and observer spotting constantly kept us on our toes.
Anyway the point I’m making is that in an era where ratings are the life support of tv series, where serialised tv can often struggle to stay afloat because their audience may not keep up due to the increasing complexity of Fringe still dared to walk the tightrope between being bold and being reckless, despite being handicapped with poor ratings and the constant threat of cancellation. And for that, I’m proud of them.
