For the sake of the final season, I HOPE they don’t kill Olivia and have her be absent for several episodes at the start of next season.

I hope not too. If we have to endure a ‘where’s peter’ arc, I will be so disappointed. No matter how much everyone has been complaining about this season’s Olivia and loving AltLiv better; Fringe is not Fringe without our Olivia.

Say it ain’t so . . . Olivia must not die in the season final. Please . . .

No way will she die and if she does “die” she will still be in next season. I will pay you £10000000000000000 if Anna Torv is not a regular next season (of course as i dont know your banking details, payment will be impossible :p, but seriously it wont happen)

The “Where’s Olive?” angle would be laborious, if it were to happen. I think die-hard Fringies will stick with the show, but I am not sure how long the core audience would tolerate that kind of an arc. Four episodes without Peter seemed very much like an eternity for some. Ratings would tank even more because one of The Big Three (and THE central character) would be missing. The difference would be that we wouldn’t have to wade through the “gee, no one knows her now” narrrative when she returned.

Fringe, according to Pinkner and Wyman, is first and foremost a love story. If that really is true, I can’t imagine the show ending on a Peter without Olivia/Olivia without Peter note.

all love story’s end tragically (read a Nicholas Sparks book lol) so i hope that the series finale doesn’t have Olivia dead because ill never be able to recover. I’m already thinking about life after Fringe and all i see is emptiness. i honestly don’t know how i am going to cope once that last episode airs!! :(

No way Olivia – Anna Torv is not in season 5! They can´t do this once again to us!!!! Guys! Last summer was so horrible because of Peter! I cannot and don´t want to have this again – this is not a healthy frustration anymore!!!! Fringe must simply have a HAPPY ENDING! Because Guys we have actually a real tragedy coming – can you imagine this time the next year on Mai 02 2013 there will be no more Fringe for us to discuss this Fanpage will be a history and we also must say good bye to each other soon! I also cannot imagine a life after Fringe………it will be very hard to recover…..not to visit this site……. not to talk about Fringe…… to leave the characters just like that behind after last ep. of the last season……This guys will be where an incredible LOVESTORY – Fringies(Fringe fans) and their beloved show Fringe will end as a tragedy:( ehhh……………….terrible enough – so please give us a happy ending so that we all could recover somehow…..I know that just right now it won´t be easy! Deep in my heart I still hope for an another miracle that Fringe will go on somehow beyond season 5……only time will tell………….

Hmmm….. I am really not a fan of the concept of DRJ’s plan but this trailer certainly makes it look very cool!

    Also..
What I got from this is that they are going to level up Olivia’s powers in a MAJOR way and I would have liked more build up to it than that.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 8

Ok the bit at the end after FOX’s little troll is someone saying “Bishop” (right?) my first impression was MAN X saying it to Peter, because Peter told him his name in Olivias mind (although does that still apply to new timeline?) and in the promo for this episode there is a fight under what looks like some kind of aerial at night, with olivia pointing a gun trying to shoot at 2 men fighting (Peter and Man X?)

      Purely theory…

Bad trailer…I’m sick of the thuds and annoying “do do do-do do” background music, give us a truly epic trailer with epic music to suit the show, not this awkward one. There is no flow, it’s short, and randomly cuts off. Hopefully next weeks trailer will restore some glory to these promos and maybe even be as good (or better) as “The Day We Died”‘s trailer.

Come on ad people! You can do better!

They always do this. It is much to early to give us a good clear promo for the entire finale. They did this with episode nineteen. We will get a much clearer promo later. I hope not too much though. I hate when they reveal too much; that is why I don’t mind these kind of vague promos.

It’s not about what they reveal though, the episode 19 trailers were fantastic, it’s just these annoying sounds and music and terrible flow in these trailers. All of them this season (except the ‘Love Hurts’ one) look like crap honestly. The music is all wrong, there’s random stops (like at the end of this one) and it doesn’t get me excited, LOL all the things a trailer could do wrong is right here in this one…

Whoever makes these should see the new Dark Knight Rises trailer and take some tips from how to make an epic one…

I haven’t read through all of the comments, so forgive me in advance if my theory has already been presented.

I re-watched the trailer without the sound and came away with theory. What if the ‘Only One Will Survive’ isn’t talking about the universes, but the Olivia(s). Will it be Olivia or AltLivia who must die?

Now that I’m writing this, it sounds totally ridiculous. I think I’m just trying to ease my feeling of doom that Olivia’s death might be the cliffhanger. Of course, Anna Torv is coming back and Olivia will be in season 5, I just don’t know how she will be presented.

I think there will be an interview with Jeff and Joel sometime soon. I’m excited to hear what they have to say about season 5, but at the same time dreading their cryptic answers. I just love FRINGE!

The, “Only one will survive,” could be talking about DRJ or Olivia. Maybe the September clip is a Red Herring. Trailers are always full of misdirects. Assuming Etta is cannon for Season 5, we know Olivia at-least has to live long enough to have her. I still don’t’ think they’d do a Season 5, esp, since it’s only 13 eps, without Olivia.

John Noble has even acknowledged all of the subtle differences of Walter.
Why not different versions of Olivia as well. She has the acting chops. She is following the lead, and is on the money with her interpretation of the character.

I don’t agree. You know, I liked her even in season one when everyone had issues about her acting. But the character of Altlivia (this and last season too) is so overacted that it feels like a comic book one, flat on the paper. And unfortunately the interactions of Olivia with Nina, Walter and Lincoln, so overworked (or maybe underworked), make me feel a kind of second hand embarassment. And this bit with Peter in the trailer sounds even awful. So I really don’t feel like she is doing a great job.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 9

        • willg says

I don’t think she is doing a bad job at all. I think it goes more to the side of writing than it does acting. You don’t all of the sudden become a bad actor. Look at Natalie Portman in Star Wars. She is an oscar winning actress, but she was not good, mostly because the writing was so horrible. By the way, I would love to match her up with almost any actress out there and see them try to keep and maintain double digit multi universal versions of themselves and keep it straight.

I have been vocal this season about my dislike for some of Anna Torv’s acting this season, but I have to agree that the writing has got to play a major part in it (or just be the cause) ourolivia and amberolivia before her has arguably got the worst writing this season, some of her lines have been plain embarassing.

BUT yes I dont like the way she says some of her lines and dont know whether that is delivery or its just nimoy coming out of her mouth again but it is weird, a prime example is when fauxlivia was drunk in 4.18, i really didnt like her delivery in that one, not sure if its acting or her accent lol

“unfortunately the interactions of Olivia with Nina, Walter and Lincoln, so overworked (or maybe underworked), make me feel a kind of second hand embarassment.”

Yes, the Olivia and Walter scenes have been nowhere near as good this season and I think its because their playing it that their “closer” now in this new timeline and the actors dont have enough chemistry to pull it off, or their trying to hard. I would think its the latter cause throughout seasons 1-3 i greatly enjoyed their relationship a good example would be in the “last sam weiss” (3.21?) where walter tells her how special she is, so something has happened this season.

I’ve actually found the Olivia and Nina relationship quite enjoyable, although a poor substitute for the Peter and Walter relationship, that is STILL sorely missed.

As for the Olivia and Lincoln interaction I dont really want to get that far into it because i will just hate and hate and hate BUT the characters/actors have 0 or are maybe in the – in terms of chemistry, nevermind romantic chemistry and its just been awfulll.

Finally, I will say that Anna Torv is definately overrated, but that dosent mean to say shes not an amazing actress.

This has been bothering me a bit too but I don’t think Anna Torv’s acting is to blame. I’ve loved how she played Olivia in all the previous seasons (even that controversial Season 1) and she’s doing a great job with AltLiv. I think the wriiting (bad) is one big factor but in my book the season started good in her favors and turn really bad. Between the dillemma should we invest and like this “new” Olivia and she is really the old one with new memories we got lost . I agree her perfomance this season is not the best in parts and the (horrible) writing helps . For me ep14 might be one of the bad ones she had in a long time . There is zero balance in couple of episodes and mood swings in times without reason.

All season should be called “the fringe experiment”. They experimented with old relationships played as “strangers” and they tried too much to make the audience love the “red” characters aka AltOlivia (mostly) and Walternate. But in favors they almost made the audience deslike the originals aka Walter and Olivia. I feel disconnected to Olivia’s character all season . 2 times i found myself connected partly to the “old” glimpse of her. In episode 13 and episode 16 . Other than that one of the worst episodes in history of Olivia Dunham is episode 14 and episode 8 .

The actress has acting skills to play a spin off alone only with all the Olivia’s in . But i get the feeling she really liked the plot in the beginning of the season got bored and disconnected from Olivia after awhile . I didnt find her perfomance and chemistry with John in ep4 too much.Propably one of the best but since episode 11 and AltOlivia/Walter came in i find weird mood in their scenes and i cant help it . She seems to downplay Olivia this season after couple of episodes and tries too hard to make us love “AltOLivia” and she ends up overplay her character completely ep11 is one of them and episode 18 in parts like the drunk altOlivia and Walter scene.

i think the way they write Olivia this season pretty much throw her character out . All of the good job and writing of the past season is going waste and is a big shame . even the build up for her abilities and the whole death march lost points after awhile .Even if they kill Olivia i doubt if it will have any dramatic impact to the audience the same way it had last season with Walternate killing her . The prophecy somehow prepares you for that but i wont feel surprised if next season Olivia is pretty much dead and we might have to deal with her clone or another new version of her . I hope though the finale will at least make some justice to her character and the infamous and not full explored abilities .

As for Olivia being next season? It will come down to the finale and if indeed Anna will be next season because it makes you wonder whats up really .But i wouldnt want really another “where is Peter Bishop” scenario or the show leave us with the question all way if Olivia is dead in 2036 all summer . I can see her not being in 2-3 episodes mostly but not forget we will have 13 episodes and not 22 and they are the last ones and despite the bad plot she had this season she still remains one of the central characters and core of the show and i think they risked too much this season with the new dynamic between the 3 characters to do it again .

(long post i really apologise for that)

        @Dawson
Don’t worry about the long post, I enjoyed reading it. IMO Anna Torv will be in all 13 episodes next season, I really cant see her not being in them all. I just think Ourolivia has not got enough screentime this season, there has been a lot of focus on altlivia and i have to say i enjoy her more than the original now, although she is very overacted sometimes.

YES not enough time with the big 3 and the experiment IMO has gone terribly wrong, and now their finally back together we don’t even get screentime with them for example walter goes over there leaving peter and olivia over here, they go and graze with gene while we have a lincoln centric episode, then in worlds apart they didn’t really have a scene together. I just dont understand the writers thinking with it.

In regards to episode 14, I think the torture scene (and whatever explanation there is about it as Olivia was “disconnected” from meana) was her worst performance on Fringe, ive never heard anything so wooden.

Alot of people don’t like the way season four has gone this year; I get that. I like what they have done. They are telling a story and I think the story is interesting. Has it been perfect; not by a long shot but I am ok with that. I would rather they shoot for the stars as far as creativity and thinking out of the box and fall way short then try to play it way safe and be boring. As far as Olivia this season, I know some think she has not played Olivia as well. I think it has mostly been writing, but also she has not been the Olivia we are used to. She has had such a different life so she is not the Olivia we all want or expect. It s not that something is off, it’s that she is or was a different person and we expected her to act a certain way. She is probably close to that transformation of becoming blue Olivia completely and I believe we will notice this in Anna Torv’s awesome acting abilities. I try not to go in and think this character should act this way or that in different seasons because every season is like a new show. That is what is great about Fringe. Then decide if you like the direction or not. Obviously you did not and that’s cool. I really like what they were trying to do this season. It stumbled a good deal this season but so be it. It still has been a great ride this season and still one of my favorite shows all time. I cannot wait for this finale (with no expectations just hoping to be greatly entertained).

I don’t think we were supposed to fall in love and cling to the Amberverse versions of the characters, nor do I think we were supposed to prefer the Redverse version of the characters. So to that end, I think the writers actually did a good job at making the majority of us feel what they wanted us to feel.

The fact that many people are saying “we want Season 1 and 2 Olivia back !” is showing that the writers achieved the effect they wanted to achieve in the first place: they wanted AmberOlivia to seem drab, empty — a warm body. A shell waiting to be filled. If the same actress can make you endeared to one version of herself, hate, be at enmity with, or be disappointed in the others … then she’s done a good job of acting imho :-)
