oh dear god. Honestly, if the fans are not watching because of the storyline, then they really need to shoot themselves. If you’re in, you’re in for the long haul. I hate how hypocritical some “fans” can get.

Sorry for the rant.
Positive part: ALL shows were down.

SHOOT themselves – really?! I watch every episode live, and this time, even *I* wanted to throw my remote at the screen.

So let’s be realistic here. If HARD-CORE fans are troubled by the storyline and plot this season, then the only ones to blame are the writers and directors. Being complacent and willing to overlook the show’s flaws, doesn’t make you a better fan. It just makes you a more stubborn, resilient one.

I’m sorry if I offended anyone here. My main point here was that every single plot-line can’t satisfy everybody and that is not a reason to give up on a show.

Again, my apologies if anyone felt insulted.

I’m quite hard-core about my Fringe, and I was extremely bothered by the last 2 minutes of ‘Concentrte and Ask Again.” Who’s brilliant idea was that?
The writers’? Jeff Pinkner’s? As much as I respect and am in awe of him, those last 2 minutes were like a slap in the face to all of us who’ve invested in this show since the pilot. We Fringe fans are not dumb, we don’t expect Peter & our Liv to live happily ever after, but how much whumping can you do to our Liv’s character EVERY SINGLE week? That said I’m not surprised at this week’s ratings. Less people probably tuned in at 9PM after last week’s ending.

And let’s be honest here. Walternate in bed with a new female with a vagenda? All that does is make me add ‘adulterer’ to his description.
And a plot whose only purpose seemed to be to get a sonogram on Faux’s abdomen to give us the big reveal? Not the best Fringe can offer by ANY stretch of the imagination. C’mon Fringe writers. Stop trying to Desperate Housewives this beautifully cerebral scifi show! Maybe Pinkner, Wyman, Akiva Goldsman, and even JJ himself need to pick up their pens and write the rest of the Season 3 episodes.

Haha, thought the same about the sonogram… I mean, she DRANK the water… even if you don’t have any clue about the human body, WHY would they search for the bugs in her uterus area?? DUH…

If HARD-CORE fans are troubled by the storyline and the plot … then the only one to blame is themselves. Imagine what the new viewer is making of all of this, especially when a devoted FRINGE viewer can’t even wrap their head around it … We need a Fringe catch up, like LOST did to attract more eyes, more viewers.

agreed, ajewell! i love fringe and have been watching since the pilot. i’m trying to have faith in the writers because it’s true that so far they have given us an amazing show. but that doesn’t mean that they can’t take an unfortunate turn… they are human and there are a lot of factors to take into account; very specially the pressure to rise the ratings. and imo, not just the pregnancy, but making the love triangle pretty much the main plot is an unfortunate turn. it’s just not like fringe and it’s very forced.

I completely agree! And that’s coming from a hard-core shipper, who’s been supporting P/O from the start. This entire season has just felt too much like a soap opera to me; I preferred it when the romance was more low-key, and not front and center. But from the look of things, sadly, it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be getting better anytime soon – though I’m still in it for the long haul, come what may. *resigned sigh, when I should be ecstatic and excited*

No kidding, ajewell. Isn’t it bizarre that your favorite show comes on and you’re both hopeful and yet terrified at the same time that it’s gonna air? That’s how I felt on 2/11.

I want to be jumping up and down excited every Friday night at 8:59PM(like I used to be). This Friday looks to be a more interesting episode. But as for the P/O, keep in mind in the past this series gave us a happy little P/O nuggets and then BAM! hit us in the same episode with something P/O nasty! Be prepared.

oh i’m a diehard shipper too (and like ella said in “brown betty”, all good stories end with “happily ever after”… ;) ), but it should stay an element of contrast. in addition to all the mythology, which should be the most important part of the show, and the eventual motw, it’s good to have some elements to humanize the characters and to show a different side of them. but like you said, fringe is not a soap opera and the romance should stay in the background!!!!

CSI:NY scored 1.5, so I guess that’s saying something on how bad the night was on everyone.

If the viewing does go up next week *touch wood* i dont understand why some fans arent watching the “over there” episodes there part of the overall story how can you watch a show while missing vital episodes (That being said you could have basically watched the last 5-10 mins to know everything you need to know for immortality) it just annoys me as were edging towards cancellation and i cant do anything as im in england!

That’s a little harsh isn’t it?? Why should people watch if the mood is constantly miserable even if there is a vague promise of an awesome payoff at some possible distant future. What if that payoff never comes-why should a new viewer trust that? I’ll keep watching because I am a “fan” but I don’t expect the viewers that aren’t die hard fans to tune in if I’m having trouble staying with it. I’ve already spent way too much time thinking about it…ugh-it’s only tv right? I have to say-if it does get cancelled I’ll really miss the comments and speculation on this blog.

Just curious-do you think the mood and story is enticing for newbies and we’re losing core viewers? I thought they also wanted to keep the die-hards? The round-table on this plot must be fascinating? I still think it’s the overall mood that’s the problem?

I don’t think the show’s fate is in the hands of newbies. IMO, anyone not already on board is unlikely to say at this point, “hey, “Fringe” might be worth checking out” (and God forbid someone chose last night’s episode as their first ever “Fringe” experience). No, I think that ship has sailed. It’s up to those who have been along from the beginning to vote with their eyeballs.

totally agree with you. at this moment, it´s ridiculous to expect a significant amount of newcomers to join in and enjoy the show. there´s a lot of background to understand the story as it is right now and, let´s be honest, the last couple of standalone episodes have been rather subpar. i said it in another entry: the writers should focus on the big story arc. whatever it turns out to be, at least they´ll direct their energies to that one goal. so far, everything feels undercooked. specially so the MoW stories.

Personally, I think the romance took too much a center stage in the last few episodes, but considering the writers interviews and the rest of this season 3 episodes which have already aired, I think things will turn out much better. I also love when they give great attention to the emotional and dramatic side of each episode cases. Like Milo (and his sister) in The Plateau, the police shapeshifter and the senator wife, the 2 twins brothers in amber etc. Even the cab driver in Olivia was a pretty cool character. It was also fun to see the antagonism between Fauxlivia and Newton when he was still alive. Having Fauxlivia killing the deft man, pushed by Newton, was some great part.

I think Fringe will have a fourth season. Fox loves the show and they could have canceled it LONG ago. Friday nights are perfect for this show, people will keep watching and they will have a fourth season, Fox promotes this show a lot. But we do need to keep it up even if we don’t like the story line, which I do! It adds more intensity to the show, you can’t just have case of the week every time.

I just dont get how it can go from 1.9 to 1.4 in 2 weeks. Thats a pretty drastic drop, even if last night was off for everyone. In an interview, they said Fox suppsoedly thinks some magic number is 1.2 to 1.4, so the next few weeks should seal its fate.

That sucks but what someone said about it being Valentines Day weekend would make sense to me since so many of the shows had low ratings. Let’s not give up yet guys! I am not happy about fauxlivia being pregnant but I know the writers are not going to turn this into a soap opera. If they are playing to the die hard fans (which they said they were) then they know that we aren’t looking for a soap opera. That is what they would be playing at if they were desperate to bring new viewers to the show. Season 3 will end in a shocking and amazing way just like the last two seasons have.

Well , i guess … s4 and s5 will be fair enough for Fringe and can go more BUT .. I think they owe the fans so many things … at least .. restore the hope for them , don’t change the main character …. , most of the fan are depressed from the direction of the story line and even the spoiler ain’t help either , the fans aren’t knowing anything .. it seems that they did ruin the show .. but I have to say .. I still have faith in the writers that all what we did see will turn in to something else .
There must be an other way .. there must be a hope there . after all … it’s a very wonderful show .. better than anyother show .

( could it be that Walternate did change our writers from the alt-universe ? :D )

The storyline is fine. I think people are over-reacting. I haven’t been let down yet, and the writers -tbh- have been so good/multi-layered with their techniques that I can’t help but feel that this storyline will make sense soon.

I don’t understand what happened…after the first two episodes back the show looked almost certain to be renewed for season four. Two weeks later and the show is headed towards certain cancellation. Are people that unhappy with the current storyline that they’d rather see the show get cancelled than get renewed and have a chance at an awesome season four?!

These last two weeks don’t make a whole lot of sense, ratings wise. I expected a drop, but was thinking more 1.7 sh range, maybe and maybe 1.7 – 1.8 this week. The story line does make me a little nervous, and I understand that could have some effect on ratings. But at the same time I’m intrigued. Over there episode could also, I suppose could have an effect. But in my opinion during the back and forth episodes starting out the season the quality of the over there episodes were superior. And this is the best episode I’ve seen since Entrada, which was during a creative high in the season.

I also though the big reveal of the episode was done tactfully and to bring out emotion and feelings people could relate to. I felt empathy towards a majority of characters, and was surprised by many.

Also Walternate is one complicated person, his moral line is quite jagged. Although Walter’s is also.

Case in point, my favorite episodes this season have been.

1: ‘The Abducted’ -over there- +Olivia+
2: ‘The Plateau’ -over there- +Olivia+
3: ‘Olivia’ -over there- +Olivia+
4: ‘Do Shapeshifters Dream of Electric Sheep?’ -here- +Fauxlivia+
5: ‘Entrada’ -over there/here- +Faux and O’
6: ‘Immortality’ -over there- +Faux+ and ’6955Khz’ tie -here- +Faux+

The top five episodes are some of my favorites of the whole series.
4/7 episodes took place over there
2/7 here
1/7 both universes

Though interestingly,
3/7 were Fauxlivia episodes
3/7 Olivia
1/7 both

I actually thought my favorites would mainly be Olivia episodes, because that’s who I missed most going through the first 6 episodes of this season.

It gets really complicated considering episodes where Olivia acted like Fauxlivia, and vice-versa; though Fauxlivia didn’t convincingly act like Olivia. I am beginning to like Fauxlivia more then I did, and Lincoln less :P

I wish I could help push up the ratings by tuning in on friday nights, but I live in Europe and for me Fringe-Day is a Saturday. That is when I download the newest episode from iTunes – or I watch it on HULU…
That said, I wasn’t so intrigued by this last episode, not much tension and action. The case it self (bugs) was not so interesting either and the “over there fringe team” isn’t so dynamic either, I much more prefer Walter, Olivia, Peter and Astrix on “our side”. I just love the scenes in Walters lab (harvard), the dynamic between the characters and way they solve the fringe cases on “our side”.
The highlights for me are Walters emotional outbursts and his witticism.
I also like how Olivia and Peter are trying to resolve the relationship-dilemma they are in and think the performances of the actors are great.
I absolutely adore Anna Torv for her outstanding performance!!!

Although it was interesting to get more insight into the characters on “the other side”.
Walternate and his mistress – that was really awkward though, I would rather like to get more insight in his relationship with his wife and hope to find out what happened after Peter was abducted/saved by Walter.
I hope they will deliver more interesting “over there” episodes in the future.

I am really looking forward to see next weeks all new episode (on saturday for me), the preview/sneak peak is VERY promising!!!

Well, I’m a Chuck fan too and I can answer that. Do you know Subway? The sandwich franchise? well it often appears in the show. Chuck fans made a campaing based on that, sending pictures of them going to Subway, things like that. There is a video of Zachary Levi, the star of chuck, going to a Subway with a lot of chuck fans.=) It was pretty cool.

I think fringe fans should send a White Tulip to FOX. It was an awesome episode and would be very meaningful =)

After the Marionette review, I commented

“Speaking of the machine and Peters DNA, What if Altiv ends up being preggo by Peter then they, in the alternate universe, will have Peters DNA … could provide an interesting twist in future episodes?”

Oh, this could be good. Or it could not be good. I like Fringe because of the Fringy-ness, you know, the sci-fantatstic storylines. While the peppering of romance can add twists, I fear it adds too much interpersonal drama and makes the show kinda soap-ish and that, in turn, kinda turns me off.

I think the writers and producers have to get more back in line in how the show was, story-line wise, in the first 2 seasons where it had more of an outer-limits /twilight zonish style that appealed to us. By adding too much drama to the story line, and having shows storylines overlap too much, it will make it exceedingly difficult to attract new viewers to the show as they will have no proper frame of reference for what is happening, and why, in a current episode.
