ARG: Case 0091 Evidence 0008 - Gustav Blurs The Lines
Credit to BLBass from Fringe-Forum for noticing that the the parent directory for Evidence file 0008 is in fact a rabbit hole filled with even more mysterious ‘weather pattern’ images and movies. Interestingly, the directory contains more satellite images of real-life hurricanes, including hurricane Dolly, Fay and Gustav. To give us some ‘current’ perspective, Gustuv is the hurricane that is has recently spared much of New Orleans. Residing even deeper on the parent directory, is the Weather Matrix website. In their own words, Weather Matrix is:

So what’s going on here? Why are they feeding us yet more real-world weather events, patterns and organizations? As we said in a previous post, it would seem that this ARG is all about blurring the lines between fiction and reality, and perhaps blurring the lines between what is possible and what is impossible. In the world of Fringe (I guess that’s called the “Fringeverse”), is man experimenting with nature?

The WeatherMatrix.net site is a real weather site. It has been owned by Accuweather since 2005.
Just because the “game” pointed to two videos on that site, doesn’t make the whole site “in game”.

That’s what I meant by “blurring the lines”, in so much as the ARG using a mixture of real-life events/organizations/websites and fake ones.
It seems to tap right into the heart of what this show will allow us to explore. “Explore the impossibilities”.
Here’s the funny thing.
If you do some web research the url for those two videos is “http://imaginetheimpossibilities.com/77203/09179/80576/28621/62270/weather.html”
It’s a mirror of “http://www.weathermatrix.net/2008/0525/tornadovideo/”
they mirrored weather videos from an actual site and put it on the ARG site.
Yeah, they’re very clever at blurring the lines. The weather matrix site must have given them permission to do this I reckon.
