DR. WALTER BISHOP’S BRAININESS TAKES ON NEW MEANING AND WILLIAM BELL RETURNS ON AN ALL-NEW “FRINGE” THURSDAY, DECEMBER 10, ON FOX

A Fringe investigation is triggered when a patient at a mental institution undergoes an impromptu brain surgery that unexpectedly leaves his brain exposed. Despite the unthinkable circumstances, the patient’s condition and sanity miraculously improves before the Fringe team arrives. While Agent Dunham and Peter scan surveillance tapes (and Walter enjoys his pudding), Olivia recognizes a familiar face as Thomas Jerome Newton (guest star Sebastian Roche), the leader of the “shape-shifters.” As similar cases stack up, the Fringe team heads back to the lab to determine exactly how patients are being cured. Walter’s brains are put to the test and William Bell (guest star Leonard Nimoy) resurfaces in the all-new “Grey Matters” episode of FRINGE airing Thursday, Dec. 10 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (TV-14 L, V)

Now THAT’s what I’m talking about. This episode is the first one this whole season that feels like the old Fringe. Holy crap that was good.

So we finally get some answers and confirmation about little things from season 1. Back in Season 1 Walter made a one-off comment to Peter about not having access to all parts of his mind. Guess we know WHY now. Will Walter retain some of the memories from his old brain tissue?

And seeing Walter sane for those few moments was absolutely chilling. He was as dangerous and as cold as I imagined he would be. I wonder if we’ll see “sane” Walter again.

But big questions! Going back to “The Arrival” remember that Peter “remembered” something that he couldn’t know the answer to. Does Peter have a chunk of Walter’s brain in his head as well?

And William Bell…he said he would be the one keeping Walter’s knowledge “safe” but what does that refer to? The scattered pieces of Walter’s brain, or something else? Regardless, he failed to do so…the shape-shifters knew all about it. Or does the canister from “The Arrival” have something to do with it?

And what about Bell…how exactly does he get to the “other side.” Is it using a method the shape-shifters can’t use? Why not just round him up “over there” and interrogate him? Walter’s method of crossing over must be different than Bell’s.

And life on the “other side” is pretty bad…some sort of wasting plague is on the loose? Interesting. The Shape-shifter leader sure is polite.

Ok, I thought the end of “Of Human Action” was shocking enough, but this one was… more than shocking for me.

And only now I realised how much I miss the old action of the show ._.

It seems that the shape-shifters are after Walter’s method of crossing over – they had to come over somehow in the first place. It seems that the ‘crude’ method Bell referred to in ‘Momentum Deferred’ is the only one known to them. It seems to damage all but the most resilient people. But Walter’s may be safer and more reliable. Couldn’t figure out why people who had crossed over still needed to learn yet another method of crossing over. That’s what seems to make sense to me. Amazing episode!

    Here’s something really interesting…

David Robert Jones and Thomas Jerome Newton

So, let’s look at what the Season 1 villian and the Season 2 villian have in common.

Triple Names – Both are referred to with their first, middle and last names.

The Gate – Both want(ed) to open a door to the otherverse.

David Bowie – DRJ is DB’s real name and DB played a character called TJN in the 1976 sci-fi The Man Who Fell to Earth.

Wow, cool David Bowie catch. I’d almost forgotten about David Bowie, it’s so long since he’s been heard from (by me anyway).

Hmmm, now that you mention it, I’ve spotted several “Fringe” actors portraying Young Americans.
