Here’s our round-up of the interesting Eastereggs and hidden clues that we noticed in the pilot episode (sorry it’s late).
“Observers Are Here”
Cleverly hidden in the opening title credits, just after the words “Dark Matter”, are the words “Observers Are Here”. Whether the ‘observers’ is a reference to us viewers, or somebody (or a corporation) within the show has yet to be established. It could possibly hold double-meaning. Ever get the feeling you’re being watched?..:
Multitude of light references (observation orbs?):
Is someone observing our Fringies and the rest of the world via lights or the medium of electricity?
Massive Dynamic Have (Robot) Fingers in Every Pie:
As seen above, Massive Dynamic not only make aircraft jet engines, but they also make satellite dishes. Remind you of any companies you know? How does one company amass so much knowledge and scope..and for what ends? I guess that’s one of things we’ll find out with Massive Dynamic.
Also, their slogan is so apt: Massive Dynamic - “What Do We Do? What Don’t We Do”
He’s Not Dead:
The marking on the grave stone in Olivia’s dream telling her that John Scott isn’t dead. is this Olivia’s subconscious foreshadowing of Nina’s order to question (reanimate?) him at the end of the episode..or something more? (image credit cdesperado)
ZENO
ZENO - One of Fringe’s first philosophical references and probably not the last (“Lost” has many you see). The importance of the word ”ZENO” on the kayak is possibly related to Olivia’s past and specifically, her uncle, who this kayak belongs to. There are also time-travel and paradox references, which could allude to Massive Dynamic’s “Zeno-Transit” system:
What’s next? Travel time follows a power law, decreasing by a given factor year by year. MD’s Zeno-Transit Initiative aims to take that process to the limit, making near-instantaneous travel a reality in your lifetime.
Oh yes, fingers in EVERY pie. More ZENO discussion can be found here.
A Game of Chess? But Who’s The Pawn?:
This scene from Olivia’s dream reminded us of a chessboard, with a clueless Olivia being a pawn in a much bigger game. A game she can’t come back from.
Monkey Business:
The science commentary website, GlowingMonkeys.com is nicely planted on a street light outside Massive Dynamic head-quarters. Real world science meets Fringeverse science. More here and here.
Crafty Audio:
JJ. Abrams and his Bad Robot stable aren’t strangers to hiding clues inside of audio (just ask any Lost fan). Nevertheless it was a great piece of work by TheMarkedMouse to discover the reversed audio that was planted at the start of Richard Steig’s minitape. Listen to the audio below:
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
More here.
Leaf Another Day:
The leaf’s with the triangle shape (delta) on them (inset), have long been the subject of the Fringe viral campaign. However, they made their way into the show itself in the pilot episode. Nina wore a leaf-shaped necklace around her neck (inset), and a the rotating viral leaf also appeared after the access code to the ‘reanimation room’ was successfully entered. It would appear that the leaf and other viral elements might actually be part of a sequence (a pattern), or hold status importance.
We’ve left one or two clues out from this round-up, as we feel it’s better to include them in our episode 2 Easteregg round-up, which will be posted soon. Thanks to Fringe-Forum.com for allowing us to borrow some of the above screencaps!

2 more observations:
1. In the “Monkey Business” image, there is also – in the foreground – a paper with a PEN and a ROSE on it.
2. When Olivia meets John on the “chess board,” note that she steps DIAGONALLY to the square on which John is standing, as if she is a pawn in capture mode. Therefore, she’s the one with the advantage, although it’s unclear if this is due to a chess gambit!
MORE EASTER EGGS that I discovered:
1. This shot above takes place at 54:08, during the time she’s connected synaptically to John, and right before Olivia sees Robert Steig… notice the hand-with-a-watch floating at the bottom left:

2. In frames inserted in between frames of Robert Steig’s image (the dominant image we see), there are also flashes of the following at 54:09…

MORE EASTER EGGS that I discovered:
1. 54:08 – right before Olivia sees Robert Steig in her “dream state” with John.
2. 54:09 – in frames that flash very quickly, in between shots of Robert Steig during Olivia’s “dream state” with John.
MORE EASTER EGGS that I discovered:
And for some reason, I’m not able to post the URL for the images I posted online, but…
During the part where Olivia sees Robert Steig in her dream state with John, you can see a hand-with-a-watch floating near Olivia’s head IN THE TANK…. and very quickly in between the frames of Robert Steig’s face, you can see a skull with hair. This all occurs in 54:08 and 54:09.
Hey Marked Mouse, great work!
Were also going to mention the Penrose link in the episode 2 EE round-up, since we were late with Ep.1, we thought it’d now make more sense to include it then, but you’re totally right to point it out! Now Olivia’s diagonal step is VERY interesting. We’re going to have to watch that again, but if you’re right then it surely can’t be coincidence!
Great screencaps. I’ve had a look at the ‘watch’ one, and I think it might be Walter [or Peter's] hand, as they place her in the tank. Will need to rewatch to verify that though. The skull is a great spot, I dunno what it means but it must be there for a reason, right?
P.S. Sorry about the problem with your links not appearing straight away, we have it set-up so that any post with 2 or more links go into moderation before they appear. We try to approve them asap. This is to fight against spammers who like to post crude stuff in the comments. Please let us know of any other observations you make and keep up the great work!
Not sure if it’s anything but in the shot outside MD (as pictured above)there is a reflection of a truck driving by with some words on it…with my sd tv I couldn’t make it out clear enough but it may be something…love this stuff!
Thanks for the tip Stealthy M0nk, we’ll check it out to see if it’s anything.
The text streaming across the window of Massive Dynamic looks like “which must not be bought”. Both ends are truncated so it’s hard to say fore sure. It looks like a ticker streaming across the front of the building, inside the window. I think if it was the reflection from the side of a truck passing by, it would appear bass ackwards in the window. What does it mean??? Ain’t got a clue.
Worth noting that this scene differs from the scene outside of Massive Dynamic in the un-aired pilot.
Good work Stealthy M0nk and Page 48! I think Page 48 is right, it looks like it’s on a LCD ticker of some kind, located inside Massive D. The only thing I can relate it to at this stage are the stock market tickers that are seen inside Massive D and on their website. Does this allude to Massive D trying to invest in something that cannot be bought (Olivia?), or perhaps someone else is trying to buy Massive D out from under William Bell? Where the heck is he anyway!?
the higher you get the better will be the view.
